I have been reading through the threads for a while and becoming increasingly inspired ( bit scared at first to be honest!!) I thought its about time I plucked up the courage to put my commitment to pay off my mortgage in public!!
I have been making some OP's over the past year, but will be really hitting them from the beginning of next year, and really need to start getting into the right habits now to be able to make it!!
And I will need help!! I have a history of giving up.....:o:o:o
Looking forward to all suggestions, hints and tips.... these boards are amazing!!! :T:T:T

Okay, a bit of detail....
I have a mortgage of around 65k and outstanding non-interest debts of around 35k. Currently, my dh has an o/d of around 2k which does incur interest so we are going to pay that off within the next 3 months or so with the remainder of savings that we have plus whatever else we can raise!!
We currently op by about £100 per month and have approx 14 years left on the mortgage, but i really want to pay that off a great deal faster..... I am not certain how long it will take, I am not great with spreadsheets etc, but I am going to aim for about 5 years.....
The household is made up of 5 adults - dh & I are both in full time work which is stable so we are very fortunate there, ds & dil are both at college and dd is currently looking for work. Basically, dh & I fund the household in its entirety so money is pretty tight and its not going to be an easy journey, but nothing worthwhile is so no issues with that _pale_.....really!!!
So, now I need a plan - I need to work out my budget, look at what I can do to be able to trim the edges and also look at what I realistically acheive within the next six months to get myself into a position where I can concentrate fully on mortgage repayments.... my head hurts already!!Mortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913

Thanks for the welcome and wishes Pink Poppy, beth111 and originalmiscellany!!! It sounds like we are going for a similar target PP...do you have a diary?? I haven't quite got used to the forums yet and haven't worked out how to find stuff!!
I have spent the last few hours working on my budgets etc....this whole process is part of a big overhaul of how I live at the moment, I have got to the point in my life where I want to get on with what is left of it (I am probably about half way through it hopefully!!) and really enjoy what I have.
So, new beginnings and all that jazz.....I am also intending to improve my diet, start taking care of my health, introduce more excercise and relaxation and get into routines for things rather than my previous life of lurching from one crisis to another - hopefully this will help with ridding myself of this permanent feeling of slight inadequacy I seem to have acquired over the past few years!!!
This month has been and will continue to be both busy and expensive!! Final garden expenses have to be met, my sil is getting married at the end of the month so I have the hen night and then the wedding to pay for too, so no money saved this month I fear!!
However, I have placed a Suma order so I have a huge amount of staples being delivered next week which will keep me going for a good couple of months hopefullyI am going to do a big shop for the things we get from the supermarkets next week too and that should eliminate all major grocery spends until solstice :T I am getting organised.
I am feeling really motivated at the moment, I really hope it lasts!!!! I have also joined the 'frog a week deserves a treat' thread by football widow to try to tackle my recurring weakness of procrastination - it does have a tendency to creep in with me, so everything to keep me on the straight and narrow has got to be a bonus!!! Plus, I do get a huge sense of acheivement when I don't put things off, so why I do it is a mystery to me?????!!!!!! Oh, the joys of the human psyche :rotfl:Mortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913

Sounds like you are very determined to get on with things
I think I can add a few of your goals to my list as well, particularly the health, exercise etc. I had a discussion on another diary about how much money was spent in the shops on rubbish (wine, chocolate etc) ~ far too much in my case
~ so getting a grip on that will help with the health & wealth for me
I don't have a diary ~ I'm in two minds whether to do one or not. I think it would probably help to write things down, targets, overpayments etc as my DH is not really interested in finances, so I'll still be able to 'talk' about it & I'll be able to bore other peeps with my ramblings instead!! :rotfl:
Anyway, good luck with everything & keep posting
Ps. what's Suma??'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
do a diary PP..... we can keep each other motivated!!!
my dh is all for what I am doing, its just that he has no interest in it whatsoever other than the end result!!! :doh:guess it must be the pixies that make it happen then......:wall: :rotfl:
suma is a wholefood cooperative who I buy things in bulk from because I live so far away from any health food shops....i get all my rice, beans, dried fruit, nuts and lots of tinned stuff from them and it ends up saving me a fortune....its a lot of initial outlay as its a wholesale deal, but its worth it in the long run for me
had a good day today, have started looking at menu plans and working out what to make with everything i have in already....I have a mountain of stuff that I want to clear before the end of the month - plus I haven't got enough room to put my suma order in so I have to get on with it!!!
I am really looking forward to having a relaxing evening tonight - all this op business is tiring me out!!!Mortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913

I might start a diary in the next couple of weeks, I wish my DH was interested in the MFW journey, but he's just not!! He does have a stressful job & I know he just wants to relax when he gets home, whereas I'm itching to tell him how much interest we can save if we pay this much as an overpayment & we would also knock this much off the term ~ his eyes just glaze over!! :rotfl:
I'd never heard of suma before, sounds good, I'll have a little google I think'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Hi icontinuetodream. Nice to have another diary starting up. I hope you find it helps you to stick to your plans. And wow, your plans are big, aren't they? You want to revolutionise your entire life in one go. Try splitting it up into more manageable steps, and post them on here. it will help you not to feel overwhelmed.
Reading other people's diaries helps too, as you've already found, so keep doing that. (Mine is here, if you're interested.)
Pink poppy, it would be lovely to see you starting a diary too.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49
