Its not a law - parts of wales you'll get zapped for doing 31 in a 30.

i find (usually) average speed cameras are pretty lenient, esp the ones on the A/M1.
Anyone else try the hide behind a lorry trick when entering the first set of cameras :rotfl:

The 1st set of cameras don't really matter (assumimg multiple cameras),
ie, if you speed between the 1st and last, or any pair in between, you get done.:A
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

The 10% is law & it is intended to allow for errors in vehicle speedometers. Even new vehicles can have an inaccurate speedo.

The 10% is not law. It is a guideline that police forces can choose to follow or ignore as they wish.

Driving at any speed over the limit is an offence...

This guidance does not and cannot replace the police officer's discretion and they may decide to issue a summons or a fixed penalty notice in respect of offences committed at speeds lower than those set out in the table

Yes, speedometers can be inacurate (in fact they often are), but by law this inacuracy can only apply to them over reading (by up to 10% +6.25mph). They are not allowed to show a speed lower than you are actually doing.
So if your speedo is showing you doing 70mph you could in reality being going as low as 58mph (which is the 10% difference of 5.8 + 6.25) but you could not be doing 71mph.

Over 12mph difference at an indicated 70mph seems to be an extremely large allowable difference.
Are you sure that this is correct?

The fact is that the speedo can show any speed, provided it is over that that you are travelling at. Yep, nonsensical but fact....

The worry I have is that the fuel computer, and hence mpg is directly linked to this figure, so what price economy figures??????????

Yes you are spot on this was the place.

It confused him, he was doing 50 as his speedo is out by 5 miles so he was sitting at 55 so it was 50.

It's shame as we have never had a speeding ticket before and may get one due to total confusion.

I drive that route every day. Have to say I don't know how you can be confused, the 40 signs continue as you come of the motorway. There are a lot of people who think that as they are off the motorway there won't be a 2nd average speed camera, then you see the brakes go on when they see it......too late I'm afraid.

The figure that I posted is the maximum allowable over reading error on a speedo as stated in the Motor vehicles (approval) regulations 2001.
If the inaccuracy is more than 10%+6.25mph then you are commiting an offence.
    3. For all true speeds of between 25 mph and 70 mph (or the maximum speed if lower), the difference between the indicated speed and the true speed shall not exceed—
    V/10 + 6.25 mph
where V = the true speed of the vehicle in mph.

And lastly if he trully only drove up the slip road at an indicated 50mph, again no ticket due to the over reading of the speedo and the tolerance set into the system of camera use, 10% + 3mph being the accepted norm,

Absolute rubbish, what clown you hear this from?
