hi thanks for the replies, the licence in question is an hgv licence and my friend is facing a suspension for tacho offences, which means he will not be able to work for this period. i am trying to find out if he will recieve any income while looking for another job.

That is a very serious offence for obvious reasons - the possibility of driving on a motorway at 65mph, fully laden - 44 tonnes - and being asleep at the wheel!

If it is just a suspension by his employer he has got off lightly. If, and it should always be the case, that he is being prosecuted, then the offence is treated as being the same as a drink driver having 3 times the legal limit of alcohol.

In my opinion, he should have his licence taken off him for life!
Just think of the carnage he could have caused!!!!!

the question is about claiming benefits, not your opinion of if or how long a ban he should get, although i agree all the drivers involved and there were a lot deserve everything that has happened. I simply asked where he stood on claiming jsa. thanks
edited to add, they have already been prosecuted and it is not and wasnt treated as drunk drivers.

That is disgusting and represents clearly what is happening to this country.

Thank goodness at least one officer - the new chief in the met, has the right idea - ZERO tolerance no matter what!

And just as equally, some people are being persued on mickey mouse charges for careless driving for extremely minor low speed accidents, which would normally just involve both drivers exchanging details at the roadside, thanks to the general 'anti-motorist' attitude these days!

Driving with 20 points on your license is unusual and certainly not as normal as you are trying to make it out to be, as you will find out if you search the dedicated forums on the subject!, even then its usually reserved for people who can afford a legal defence of the calibre provided by 'Mr Loophole' and co.

You can indeed plead a 'hardship' case on 12 points to avoid losing your license and a lot of motorists do, however the court will not give one hoot if the hardship only affects you - the motorist, as you are the one guilty of such a heinous crime and need to be punished, and if it means losing your Job, house, etc then so be it.

Courts are not interested if the hardship only amounts to not being able to run your kids to sporting fixtures, or go and do the shopping, Courts are more sympathetic to hardship cases which directly affects other innocent people. Such as you needing to run a seriously ill relative to regular hospital appointments for vital treatment or if losing your license will prevent your voluntary work driving the sunshine coach full of elderley people around the countryside every Sunday. Also dont be tempted to lie about thise 'hardship' cases, as if you lie then you are likely to face more serious charges if its checked and you are found out, but if you do genuinely have hardships cases which affect others beyond just social outings and general everyday inconvenience then use them.
