Mum being gullible

Please go to the Police. They take the exploitation of the elderly and vulnerable VERY seriously. They should be stopped. If you manage to bat them off successfully, they will only go and find another vulnerable person, who hasn't got a caring family member looking out for them, and do it all over again.
Please have a think about this. If they can't/won't/don't pay the cheques into thier own account then it smells iffy to me!0 -
Contact your main police station and ask to speak to the team that deals with Distraction Burglaries/Artifice (Cons such as Bogus building firms/driveway layers/Tarmacing/posing as Gas/Electric/Council Officials/Police etc etc) against the Elderly.
They usually have a team of Detectives who will be experienced with dealing with these types of scams against the Elderly and your mother will not be under any suspicion as it seems she has been cleverly duped into cashing these cheques. She is not the first and she won't be the last!
Do it as soon as possible and keep any phone numbers/receipts or anything about these builders that can help identify them.
Be careful out there,
Elmer.:cool:0 -
