Am I doing something wrong because Ive tried to sign up a new screen name so I can use this xdrive thing to save big files
http://www.xdrive.com/faq.jsp
I try to get a screen name and it asks for my telephone number which I do not want to give so made one up and my zip code but I only have a postcode and didnt want to give that either but they only take numbers I think on zip codes. They dont give a uk sign up it seems that accept postcodes anyway I cant seem to sign up to get xdrive working.
Anyopne had same problem and found a solution?

You can create an AOL screen name on the UK site here ...
http://www.aol.co.uk/aim/create/
You can then use that screen name for XDrive0 -
Thanx I did this and got a screen name but then when I got the xdrive although its supposed to be from win95 and mine is win98 I cant get the java thats needed for it, so havent managed to upload anything yet. Not sure if theres a way around this. Does anyone know the lifetime of files kept in the xdrive even if you dont log in?Thanx

Use this browser test to see if you have Javascript installed. You should be able to download it from here. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I did the check and all passed apart from the last one so does this mean I cant use aol xdrive? It says
Java Applet Support Test Failed
Xdrive has recently added 'Folder Upload' as an optional method of uploading multiple files and folders. Use of this optional feature requires Java support to be installed and enabled in your web browser of choice. Please note: this test will always fail if JavaScript Support is disabled or JavaScript is unable to script Java Applets. We recommend that you download and install Java from Sun Microsystems for the best experience.
When I try to download it from the site it says checking config then I get a window saying
warning this is not a supported operating system
you may continue with this instal but we recommend using the following op srervers, winxp etc etc and win98 se only mine is just win98 should I instal it anyway?Thanx

Are you sure that it is enabled in your browser? On IE Tools, Internet Options, Security Tab, Custom Level - Scripting of Java applets. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Sounds like this is just an extra feature ... can you upload one file at a time?
I think you have to login to XDrive once a year to keep it active - it's stated in the T&C's somewhere.0 -
I looked in there internet options security custom level and it says java permissions high safety is that right?
I have spybot, spywareblaster, avg free and zone alarm thats set on medThanx

Java for Win 95 is here ... not sure if it will be the version that is required for the extra features of XDrive
Java Runtime Environment for Windows 95
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/win95.xml
"For the Windows 95 operating system, you must use the 1.3.1_xx version of the Sun Java Runtime Environment(JRE)."0 -
ah you said Win 98
you could just try continuing with the install you tried - see if it works0 -
