Asda smart price tablets about 6p per tablet, lidl salt and rinse aid.
Although currently getting tablets from Range (diy / homeware type store) the box says 4 in 1 but inside they are the same as asda smart price (same wrapping, same tablet) box has 50% extra free at the moment so they work out at 4p a tablet. The only thing that doesn't come clean is the mashed potato pan.0 -
I buy the cheapest DW tablets i can find, and then cut them in half. Dishes always coming out lovely and clean!!!0

My dishwasher can't cope with mashed potato in even the minutest quantity. Everything comes out with mashed potato baked on and I have to scrub it all off by hand. Most annoying!!
I use whichever tablets are on special offer, although I might try the soda crystals and vinegar before buying the next lot.I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!0 -
I use boilogical washing powder in mine, Ecover if I am feeling green or value if I am being tight! Must be bio, as non bio doesn't get the tea and coffee stains out. I have had problems for years with the branded DW tablets and powders, but Bio clothes washing powder gives me sparkling results. I used to spend £10 a month on cleaning the dishes, now it is 50p-£3.50 every QUARTER! Just pop in a teaspoon and a half.
To clean the DW, I use about half a bag of soda crystals and shake it all over the bottom of the machine, then tip in about 1/3 bottle of white vinegar in, then wash on the normal wash.
PS, I use white vinegar in the rince aid compartment also, excellent results. All tips gleaned from this board in the last 18 months, Thanks guys!0 -
Speaking as somebody who has recently acquired a dishwasher these are all very useful tips. Currently I'm using Finish salt, Morrison's ownbrand rinse aid and liquid detergent, and I also have a box of Morrison's ownbrand multi tabs to try. But so far the Morrison's liquid hasn't done much for my saucepans, any kind of vegetable starch that was there before the wash cycle is still there afterwards.
I will definitely be trying out some of these tips when my existing detergents run out!Operation Get in Shape

All very interesting, thought you could only use dishwasher tablets in a dishwasher.
The reason I went on this thread is to find out if anyone else has cooked in their dishwasher. I know this sounds mad, but I'm sure I saw someone on TV once cook a ham or a steamed pudding in the dishwasher, or am I officially bonkers?HOW MUCH CAN YOU SAVE?: OLYMPIC CHALLENGE 2008BRONZE 10% SILVER 25% GOLD 50% PLATINUM 75%'Don't Stop me now, I'm cooking on Gas!' - Peggy Ollerenshaw - Hi-De-Hi!0 -

I tried cleaning dishcloths and sponges in the dishwasher, as it's meant to be equivalent of boiling them so they get sterilised. However when I did it they were covered in food sediment.0 -
No, not bonkers. I remember watching someone cook a whole salmon (or was it trout) in a DW on tv. Can't remember who or when but I do remember it being wrapped up in foil and bunged in... and it came out a treat!Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0
