in Credit cards
Tried to up my credit limit with Egg in anticipation of the anniversary offer coming around for me soon.
Got a phone call from them with the usual rubbish questions but then the representative asked me,
"I see in your first month you transferred a balance to your bank account - what did you use this for?"
Kind of stumped be a bit and so I bluffed it - but anybody else had this potential anti-stoozing question asked before?

The above facts belong to everybody; the opinions belong to me; the distinction is yours to draw...

Just tell them to mind their own business. You could tell them anything they would never know. Why not tell them you are in the process of going through gender reassignment :rotfl:

It is there business isn't it? Its their money.
Just make something up.... A new kitchen is always a good one.0 -
I did make something up - said it was to pay off HP agreement on car etc.
I think it's very much their business - just warning others rather than complaining about the question...The above facts belong to everybody; the opinions belong to me; the distinction is yours to draw...0 -
Surely you should say to pay off your overdraft as that is essentially what the payment straight into your bank account is supposed to be for.I'm married now! Yippee!0

I don't see how its their business. They offered to lend you x amount of money. Did you have to tell them how you intended to spend it at the outset?

It is their business - they only let you have it on a cheap rate to pay off overdrafts.
Otherwise it would be a cash advance and they could ask for charges, interest etc.0 -

2.4 You can ask us at any time:
...to transfer (by direct bank transfer) an amount from your Account directly to a specified current account held by you or an Additional Cardholder as long as the amount transferred would not make you go over the Individual Limit and is £100 or more.
Nothing about paying off debts.0 -

Last week i transferred £3000 from my Egg card to ING savings account for the SECOND YEAR RUNNING. just for the five months. They didn't ask me any questions, and they probably can see its going to an ING savings account?!?!
i tried to up my credit limit in anticipation of the anniversary offer in feb, but Egg were having none of it. Don't know why... all my other cards keep upping the limits willy-nilly without asking me, but my egg limit has been the same for over 2 years now!!!0 -
My guess is that they weren't investigating whether you were stoozing. Instead I suspect the guy was looking to see what he could sell you. If you said "to buy a car" they would have tried to sell you car insurance etc. Even if you had said "to put in a savings account" he probably would have tried to get you to open an Egg one (not that I'll say that if ever I'm asked!)0

I agree with Reaper. On the face of it, Egg has no right to find out what you actually used the money for. It does not make sense to me. I think they were just trying to find opportunities to sell other Egg products. Though, perhaps, the way the question was posed (by the Egg rep) could be understood differently! Just poor comms on Egg's part.0
