Had a discussion with friends. In our local area its either Asda, Tesco or Sainsbury's so go to Asda as often as I can however Tesco has a better range and Sainsbury's is a lot closer than the other two. In order of cheapness I thought it was Asda, then Tesco then Saino's. Friends have said Tesco is now amongst the most expensive. Just who is RIGHT?!!!

Asda is on average cheapest, even after considering standard clubcard points at Tesco. Asda also tends to have better special offers.
This could vary for some people as they can save up to 8p per pound with clubcard points at Tesco (2 points per pound with clubcard plus, and worth 4x more in deals).
If you are a coupon user then the cheapest store is whoever accepts the most coupons. They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!0 -
What is your definition of cheapest?
I have recently re-discovered Asda they have some very impressive special offers and their Pizzas were very good.
Waitrose are from cheapest but nothing goes in the bin!
Salisbury's have reasonable offers and are pretty much middle of the road.
Lidle and Aldi have many items that are sourced in Europe and are excellent value.
I would rather go without than purchase any item from Tesco's - they treat their suppliers very poorly - I am choosing my words carefully as I do not wish to cause MSE a problem0 -
Think it depends what products you buy. Lots of people I know say Tesco is cheapest, but when I did a comparison shop on the supermarket comparison site the basket full I "bought" was cheaper at Sainsburys, where I usually shop.0

I agree with Pipcla on this, Tesco only give you money back that they've already taken off you in overpriced shopping.I am much happier using Aldi and Asda since i dumped Tesco.Student loan no more

Are Tesco dearer than Asda? I've never really compared but I've always thought the BOGOFs are good value and then just buy whatever else I need. I use both but never really perceived much difference0

I find Iceland are the cheapest. My average monthly shop costs around £45 with Iceland. The same items from Tesco cost around £60. Plus Iceland deliver for free as long as you spend over £25.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Bear in mind that prices do fluctuate depending where abouts in the UK you are. I met somone at a party whos job it is to alter prices in sainsburys up & down the land based on what people are willing & able to pay.
with this in mind , try to use supermarkets in "poorer" areas, not the well heeled posh bits:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

I find them almost always more expensive here and not by a couple of pence but sometimes a lot - they seem to like rounding prices up, ie. something £1.88 somewhere else is £2 in Iceland although 4 Pints of milk is rounded down to £1 which is the only thing I have ever been able to see as a good price when I visit.0 -

I didn't think they did that anymore. I've always found the prices on the web sites are always the same when I go the the store wherever I am in the country.
You don't have to tell them where you are before checking out the prices at -

Tesco you have to log in and it links you to your local as you buy local specific products so there is a possibility it could vary.
Smaller stores such as Tesco Metro and Express and J.Sainsbury's Local and Central are more likely to be higher although my local Tesco Metro keeps the same prices as our Tesco Extra stores.0 -
