Car cleaning MSE styleee?

Options
Ok here's the jist. I'm huuuugely pregnant, lazy and on a tight budget.. lol. What's the cheapest, easiest and best way to get my car looking fantastic inside and out.. including the alloys? I begrudge paying £5 to run it through the car wash but we don't have an external water tap to be able to hose it down afterwards. I would get my DH to do it but he's out at work all day and by the time he gets home it's too dark and miserable to do it.

Thanks in advance!

:rotfl: What on the inside as well?
I did once try throwing a bucket and sponge at my car but it didn't seem to do much apart from make the paintwork look rather abstract.

  • I wet the car first to loosen any dirt. You could use a watering can to pour the water onto the car.

Next, I use a brush to remove any large deposits of dirt. You could use a broom fitted with a sift bristled head to avoid bnding down or over stretching. Keep it just for the car and hang it up so it doesn't gather grit of the floor..

Rinse again where necessary. This avoids the sponge getting too dirty in the next stage.

Now, use as bucket of warm soapy water and a sponge to wash the car before rinsing the suds off. Use a rubber blade to remove excess water before wiping with a micro-fibre cloth.

Alloys. You could use a brush on a long handle but I find getting down and washing with a cloth works best for me. I usually polish the alloys every now and then. This makes cleaning easier.

Inside, I just use an old vacuum cleaner and a paintbrush. With the car's air blower switched on, I brush dust into the vacuum's nozzle. Always buy good quality and purpose made car mats. They save a lot of work on the carpets if they fit properly.

Failing all that, find a teenager that you trust and pay them a tenner/fiver to do it for you.

    :)

mine absolutely loves sitting in the car while I wash it. all that light flashing and horn blowing. Great way to keep her in one place for half an hour. :D

I'd just do the glass, lights, number plates, bird droppings, and wait till the kids are old enough to do it properly for you, and give em a bag of sweets in payment. It's only gonna get dirty again.

    Leave the number plates.

Now you can ignore the speed cameras.

Some may as well be driving without number plates. I wonder if anyone has been fined for having dirty number plates?

I wash my car pretty much every weekend at the moment, and it takes me about 2 hours at a time. Then I have to wax it. Remeber to use a good wash/wax and not fairy liquid!!

Oh and using a brush on a cars paintwork?? I even refuse to use a sponge, as I think they are too corse for the laquer!!!! I use a lambs wool mit.

Hey - thought this may be a good place to post this. I love cleaning my car and making it look all shiny and clean :) but I've spent so much money on car cleaning products, like wax, tyre cleaners etc. Was wondering if anyone could tell me of a cheap place to get car cleaning stuff from? I've bought stuff from halfords, but it's so expensive there. Also got some things from Asda which is much more reasonable but they don't stock everything. Any ideas?

Cheap plastic bucket, cheap big sponge, and a 1 litre for the price of 500 ml bottle of CarPlan Triplewax car shampoo, which adds wax as you wash. I think I got mine from Wilkinsons. The job is one of those, which is quicker and easier if you do it regularly, though.

I think Halfords still have 3 for 2 on car cleaning stuff, if that helps.
