calling england from uk mobile in spain
a while ago i posed the question about calling a spanish mobile for free from the uk as my parents have moved there. i was directed to a telephone number through yourcall and it worked.
im now going to visit my parents and leaving my partner at home
well hes going on a course with work so im off to spain
anyway what im looking for now is to see if there is a way i can use my mobile and its free minutes cross network to ring either a uk land line or uk mobile from myuk mobile whilst i am in spain.
thanks in advance

I started writing a load of stuff about it then looked up your other thread to remind me - Virgin
I don't think they have any special roaming deals at all - it would be 30p/min to receive calls, 60p to make them. Text messages 35p.
If you mainly call each other and there's a chance you could swap phones with your partner without problems, it could be interesting if his is on O2 or Vodafone
if O2, there's £5 a month option of free incoming calls, with 25p/min outgoing to UK and Europe. In addition you might use a callback service for some of those 'outgoing' calls, use the free incoming calls to reach landlines for about 12p/min, maybe cheaper for a while *

If Vodafone, sign up for Passport (free) - this means a 75p connect fee per call, incoming calls no extra after that, then using your inclusive minutes for outgoing to UK and Spain. If you make only very short calls though, the 75p fees will add up ...

Otherwise, I think you might get a Spanish SIM yourself, probably the same network as your family to use cheaper favourite number options. For cheapest UK-bound calls from a Spanish SIM, use a calling card with a local access number.
If you have a spare phone maybe take both and use the Virgin one for text messages. There are Java programs you can install that use wap/grps to send texts for only a few pence, plus about a penny for the data cost0 -
wow thanks for all the info. hubbys phone is 02 but not possible to swap as his is a work phone therefore he needs it with him
thanks again

So maybe get an O2 payg SIM, and leave a message on the Virgin voicemail with the other number, before leaving.
Then you could use the free incoming calls with a callback system for outgoing, which I'll write a bit more about soon0
