Is there a call for secondhand phones

In a few days time, the mobile phone I currently use, will have been updated. It is a Samsung A800 and has been for the last twelve months, encased in a plastic case, so has no scuff marks. I have all the original bits & pieces, including instruction manual and box along with charger.
Now to the technical bit. The small card which contains info, what will I do with that ?. Once I've copied all the addresses from it and deleted, will anything else be reatined on it ?.
Then, will I be able to sell it and if so, where ? the market ?.

The small card you refer to - is I presume the SIM card - just copy the details onto another SIM. Then delete all the data on the original - there isn't really a market for these - you'll get pennies if its a PAYG SIM and if its a contract don't sell it as you'll be liable for the cost of calls.
The easy way to copy the data - is phones such as the Nokia 3100 and 3510i can copy and transfer the data. If you've only a small number of contacts - probably not worth the £30 buy the Nokia 3510i.0 -
sell the mobile through somewhere like www.adtrader.co.uk or Loot/local free papers etc., or Ebay if you fancy it0

Just had a belated thought. Once I've copied all the phone numbers from my outgoing SamsungA800 (contract), if I remove the SIM card, surely it could then be sold safely and the purchaser would buy a SIM card from whoever they choose, and presumably any provider ?.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Yes once the sim card is removed you can sell the phone on and the buyer will get a new sim or use their current one. Make sure to delete contacts that may be held in the phone's own memory.
Ebay would probably get you the best price for the phone.
Is the new phone on a different contract with new number or is it an upgrade? If the latter you may need to hold on to your current sim.0 -
i'd try ebay.
i sold a sony erricson z600 on there in january. it was 10 months old, and had scuff marks on it (which were clearly pointed out in the description)
put it on for £1 thinking i would get £25 or similar,
in the last few minutes of the auction it went from £38 to a £92 winning bid!
I'd recommend it!0 -
It is a new contract but the same, with increased minutes, from 120 to 240, but the deal means I have to have a new phone, but keep the same number. All this took place yesterday at 2.15pm and it arrived today at 7.45am.
Interesting about ebay. I've already had two enquiries from people who will accept it without the SIM, but I've no idea how much to charge.
When I'm asked "is it locked", what does that mean exactly. Currently it is being used, is there something orange will do to it ie locking, to prevent someone else using it ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. No this means that the phone is 'locked' just to one network - you can 'unlock' phones so that any SIM card will work whether its a O2/Vodaphone etc. Most probably will be locked to Orange.
Edit - Just looked at prices on Ebay in the last week and you'll probably get between £25-£40.0
