Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 5th October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning x
Not such an early start and really hope you all slept well.

When I wake up, DD and I are off to MK to do some shopping.
Im not sure what else will follow but I am slowing down as I have overdone it again.

I will be back later to catch up.

Have a good day x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

  • Morning all, before and after!

Am up ridiculously early this morning after a not-very-good sleep. Bah and humbug I say! The good news is that I'm feeling a lot better than I have for a while so am hoping for a productive day. My plan is to clear out and inventory the larder as a step towards getting back to OS cooking. I've been relying on ready-meals and tins of soup for far too long. I'm going to keep a supply of these for emergencies (snow, illness, kitchen disaster etc) but I'd really like to get back to eating 'proper' food. I had a lovely hour or two going through the new River Cottage book - there are lots of ideas in there and the photography is wonderful.

Hope everyone else has a good, safe, OS day.

    Morning all,
Haven't been on here since Friday due to a bout of flu. Hardly left my bed, anyhoo feeling better today, just as well as I need to blitz the house, DH has been realy good on keeping the place OKish but he just doesn't see dust, cobwebs etc. I've loaded WM and BM is on the go.
I've done a meal plan for the next 7 days, we have 3 freezers so I'm going to try my best to empty 1 and get rid of it. Loads of ironing to do and windows to clean. Oh the joys of being able to get stuck back into every day life.
Off to catch up on 4 days posts.
Hope it's a good day for all.

    Morning everyone,

    Get well soon Beth.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday, I had a lovely day despite having to go to work and most of my classes got wind of the fact it was my birthday and sung to me!:D

Have averted a minor plumbing disaster this morning. The cupboard under the sink was full of water and I realised that the outflow from the sink had come loose, at least the water was clean!

Work today and then taking children all over the place again this evening.
All my children have a day off today (training day) and OH is working from home so they are all still in bed. Peace and quiet!

Hugs to all that need them especially Lou, Redruby and NPM.

Have a lovely autumnal day everyone.:)

    Morning Molly and everyone

Hope you're feeling better beethebee, and the two insomniacs :)

I've also been up since well before 6, partly lurking on here, but mostly dejunking and sweeping the kitchen - the first of LOTS of clearing and cleaning! The plumber's coming on Monday to put in a new boiler and replace the radiators, but due to my hoarding tendencies you can't actually most of these - so a major clear-out is now unavoidable! :o:D Yesterday I put away all the clean clothes, cleared and cleaned the hallway, washed down the door and paintwork there and hoovered half the stairs (cable won't reach to the top!). The deadline's making me do some long-overdue work! :rotfl::rotfl:

Got a child I mind today, so jobs will be limited, but will do my best.

Hugs and kisses to whoever wants 'em - see you later.

ETA - happy birthday for yesterday, moorhen x

    Morning all,

Seems a bit cooler here today, and we had some rain in the night. I am off to work today, which is busy, so the days fly past, dd off to college, and OH to work.

Dinner tonight is an omlette with salad, my toms have finally started to ripen, and I am getting loads each day :T

Things are ok with mum, she came for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it, I am just not going to react to anything she says about my brother, they did say that they would take some money up to her tonight.

Hugs to all in need today,

Beth glad you feel better xx

    Morning all
I think I coughed & snored all night & probably fa*ted, but hubby is far too kind to complain, so far today breakfast has been cooked & eaten, packups made & hubby dropped off at the station & the fish have been fed. I have no washing that needs doing & the DW isn't full enough to set going.
I need to set off for work early as we have a couple of machines down with 'functional errors' so it will take me longer to get through the work.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all

We have autumn here at last, not complaining as I slept last night. Off to do Mum's cleaning this morning. Then have got work for the next 3 nights. Have also got DS parents evening tonight. Was very impressed with the school we looked around yesterday, another one to look around next week before we make a decision.

Not sure how much OS is going on today apart from cooking tea and taking food in to work. Fancy some more soup.

Have a good day all and big hugs to all who need one.

Not just Laura - yipeeee glad you're feeling a bit more positive. I know that the dark mornings and bad weather can affect how people feel - anytime you would like to PM me, please do - no matter what you're thinking!

Up with the larks this morning and dogs already fed and washing in. Had the PTA AGM last night where I was voted back in as Secretary (which I love doing anyway!) and then walked straight into a Beaver Scout meeting about what we're going to be doing each week. Have somehow managed to volunteer myself into doing tonights meeting - so I need to plan that a good bit and then go shopping. Found out that October is National Pizza Month - so guess what we're doing tonight!! Also found out that today is the birthday of the founder of McDonalds!

So need to pop to the shops and then prepare enough to keep 20 boys interested for an hour! Oh well, Hugs to all xx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • Morning,

Got up early today, DS helped put the bread on this morning. Washing still needs to go on...

Have a visitor coming today for a few days, so better get the house in order :S

    Have a great day x
