It does if you see how many unwanted collies are in rescue homes, people often forget a collie is a WORKING breed, I wouldnt recommend a collie as a pet to my worst enemy.0 -
How many border pups are out there already that won't get a home, rescues full of older dogs looking for homes. If you bring more into the world that just means more that don't get a home.0

If your friends and family really want collie pups there are quite a few in rescue, have a look at the Wiccaways site they will re home anywhere in the country http://www.wiccaweys.co.uk/start.html or they could look here http://bordercolliesneedinghomes.weebly.com/puppies-1-year--under-boys.html maybe not tiny pups but still youngsters, going by the last place I posted there are a few collies under or about a year old at Many Tears http://manytearsrescue.webs.com/dogslookingforhomes.htm0

Edit - I see from previous posts you are at home on disability benefits, but live in a flat - certainly not ideal for bringing up a litter of puppies!
I'm sure the council and DWP might have something to say about using the premises as a business (breeding) and any money that may be made off the pups!Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -

I don't think that will be an issue. The odds are stacked against making any money. It's likely that it will cost quite a bit to do this.
(See the youtube link in my earlier post.)Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
I've got ADHD. You can ask me about it but I may not remember to answer...0 -
I hope that the OP isn't thinking of doing this to make some extra money. Unfortunately people see 'puppies for sale £500' etc and think that they can use their dogs for a quick tax free cash injection. In reality it's not like that at all IF YOU DO IT PROPERLY!! I have a friend who has just bred from her b1tch, 9 pups and you would think she'd made a lot of money at £650 a pup. However.... she had to pay for the hip and elbow scoring, plus a few other tests, stud fees, additional vet fees for checks while her girl was pregnant, extra food for her too, puppy food, miles of vetbed, advertising, puppy vet fees, first vaccinations, microchips, plus lots of to-ing and fro-ing from the new owners to help/assist. I reckon she'll be lucky to clear a couple of hundred quid and her dog had no medical issues and had the puppies easily. Plus she had a litter of 9.
If the OP's dog has medical issues, that's a big hole in the profit, (much more likely with an older dog), what if she only has a couple of pups (who knows??), and she has to remember that all the costs listed above had to be paid out before she had a penny from any of the pups! Additionally she vetted every one of her new owners, turned about about 50% of those who rang up, and only just got a home for the last one when he was 12 weeks old...
No money in breeding at all!! unless you do it the wrong way...0 -
OP, I suggest you ask your question in another pet or dog forum. This forum is not a friendly one as soon as you mention the word breeding. As you can see for yourself, it often becomes highly judgemental and frequently just plain rude.0

The OP will probably get a similar response from any forum where people care about dogs' welfare and wellbeing.
Rescue oriented forums will point to the thousands of unwanted dogs destroyed every year, many border collies among them, and decent breeder oriented forums will advise strongly against first timers breeding a 6 year old (cheaply) to provide puppies for friends and family.0 -
She might manage to find a forum where people dont instantly post like the Hitler Jugende as soon as someone mentions breeding, regardless of whether the advice is that the !!!!! is a bit old for a first litter or not. One doesn't ALWAYS have to drag rescue dogs into it, cast aspersions on the aspiration, or imply that someone who's disabled and lives in a flat would automaticallynot only be unsuitable to breed, but also looking to defraud the council and DWP.0
