Picture Does not fill the screen?

Hi I've just connected a new Sony TV to a Sony dvd recorder, they both 'sync' OK & the picture quality is great. The picture through the dvd doesn't quite fill the screen though, 2 thin black lines at the sides. Picture size is set to 16.9? The dvd recorder had previously been connected to a JVC. Would connected the dvd recorder from factory settings make any difference, or a complete retune of the channels?

Would appreciate any help

Thx

  • Use the aspect ratio settings button on the Sony TV handset to change the picture to whatever viewing setting you prefer - you'll probably find 5 different ones are available - smart, 4:3, wide, zoom, 14:9.

You may need to look at the settings for overscan on the TV, if it's not on, switch it on.

Set it to "Auto" rather than 16:9?

I keep the ratio setting on mine to "original", and the occasiaonal programme/DVD does show in a narrower format. I don't care about the "empty" (ie. black) areas on the sides, as I prefer to see the picture, and especially people, in all the correct proportions rather than stretched out just to fill the screen.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

You should be looking on the TV rather than the DVDR
