If you're happy with your current router then keep using it. You don't HAVE to use the TT router, although they may expect you to have it connected if there are any broadband issues that need to be fixed.

I'd connect it, make sure it is setup and working OK, then go back to the original and keep the TT router stored away as a spare/backup for fault-finding/fixing. :)

Bear in mind that if you do get issues, TT will not offer assistance with a router that is not supported by them. But, given their usual level of tech support, that is hardly likely to be a disadvantage.

    Hi,
as macman says the mains advantage of using the talktalk router is that they will give help and supporrt if needed (though having teeth pulled is a more painless process than tt customer service!). I used to be with tiscali who were bought out by tt. Over a fairly short period I noticed problems occurring like connection dropping out, that I had not had before. The dropouts became more regular and frustrating and tt customer services were about as useful as a chocolate teapot over several long, painful calls. They finally said they'd have to send an engineer and it would cost me. At which point I said "hang on, I've changed nothing at this end and it worked pretty well for several years. I think the problem might be what you are doing at your end (eg changing/tweaking settings etc). So, before you send anyone and charge me anything, send me one of YOUR routers and we'll see if that makes a difference." They sent one which was easy to install- no problems since...

Also the current tt routers are n standard rather than the older b/g and would ( at least theoretically) provide a faster wifi connection if you are running a network and wanted to upgrade components.

So my suggestion would be connect the new one and keep your old one as the spare.
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

    hi evosy1978,

As other members have correctly advised you do not have to use the TT supplied routers.

However in the event support is required the telephony support teams have a number of resources to support all TT supplied routers. For non TT supplied routers they do not have specfic resources to assist so this can make providing support more difficult.

However If you join the TalkTalk Members Forum we are more than happy to assist with any issues you may have regardless of the router you are using.

    Regards
