how much for pug 106 full service

A 'full' service at Toyota Derby for my IQ is only £125, inc fluids, sparks and filters and visual checks, £200 is a bit steep imo for an old car, unless it included replacing stuff like shoes/exhaust box. For an MOT I'd try elsewhere, one of those council places for example.
It's £125 because they didn't strip your brakes out, inspect, clean, lubricate and reassemble, it was a minor or interim service in Toyota speak.
It also didn't include an MOT test, you had an engine service and inspection service only, you did not have a ''full'' service as our OP is asking about, they didn't remove your wheels.
Next year your ''full'' service will include brake strip and clean too, possibly brake fluid renewal, that will be around twice the price, but worth every penny as Toyota dealer's servicing is second to none IMO.
The 106 in question is around 9 years old, the rear slave cylinders may well start to seep at this age, the rear shoes may well be worn out, they need to be examined, the front caliper sliders can seize, they need to be cleaned and lubricated.
You cannot, and never will be able to, check the condition of the brake compenents or friction materials by peering at them through a wheel, you can see the amount of friction material left (which some people think is a service) but you cannot tell the condition of the pad surface (breaking up) or if the caliper pistons or slides are seizing.
Pug 106 rear brakes are drums, the drum is part of the rear hub and the rear brakes cannot be inspected without removal of the hub/drum, reassembly requires 2x new lock nuts.0 -

This is true, but don't get too carried away - it takes no longer to break free and remove a hub nut than it does caliper pins to remove / inspect pads.0 -

Indeed, but it does require 2 x new lock nuts which have to come from somewhere....and whereas a disc/pad set up can be checked for pad wear, the drum set up's tiny inspection hole (if there at all) isn't much use other than to tell if there's a shoe in situ.
As this is a money saving site, you'd think some would be keen to learn how to do these sorts of jobs, instead of paying someone else to do them.
Too much money these youngsters have hmm?, in Yoda speak..;) we had to learn how to do for ourselves, couldn't afford to pay anyone else.0 -
i would very much like to learn how to change oil and filters and other such stuff. however i don't know how to or have anyone guide me so its a non-starter0

Haynes manual off eFence and/or get on the owners club boards. Usually loads of free 'How To' guides on there.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

As long as you have a flat surface to work on, it's a piece of p1ss.....
Though manufacturers are making it harder and harder for home mechanics to carry out service work, by making special tools to remove simple parts, these tools do very quickly become available from 3rd party sources.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
