Stove regulations & register plate info.

Couple of questions related to woodburning stoves to get me started, if I may.....
If I was to line my chimney, do I have to fit a register to comply with regulations?
If I do need a register plate, does it have to be metal, or canit be made from fireboard?
And finally, I live in a smokeless zone, and understand that in order to comply, that I must fit a defra smokelss approved stove, but, could I install a stove that hadnt been approved smokeless, but only burn smokeless fuel on it??

I've seen at least one register plate on t'internet (on a hetas engineers site) that was made of stone with a circular hole cut through it. So i assume it doesn't have to be steel plate but might be wrong.
However it is into a twin wall flue (fake chimney breast) and i'm unsure if that matters or not.

I'm fairly certain that so long as you don't burn wood and only use smokeless fuel it doesn't have to be defra exempt (is my interpretation).

I'm looking at having an exempt one installed to cover myself in case i do need to burn wood going forward anyway (i'm likewise in an exempt area).

Any approved smokeless fuel will do just fine.
