Its fantastic, I have 2 boys aged 4 and 6, and we had a wonderful time, there is so much to do, there are plenty of different caves to explore, beauiful villages (Domme is a must for the views). We have stayed on a little campsite in Daglan, but the best was in Vitrac, very central for eveything.
If you look on the Eurocamp website, then search for the camp direct, you save a lot of money. We went 2 years on the bounce because we enjoyed so much.
If the children are older there is great canoeing.
Also forgot, there is a lovely monkey sanctuary where the moneys roam free.0 -
I started a thread on this a few days back. I want to go too as it looks great. I am after a villa with pool. Have ordered a few brochures so just need to find the time to sit down and give it some thought. Are you going with your folks?0

Well it was just for the 2 of them for their anniversary, but all this searching has got me wanting a holiday so my boyfriend and I might go too. I have found https://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk to be the most useful site so far.0

Hi there, you have picked a great region of France to go to, it is lovely! we go most years, and sad though it is - keep on going back!
I agree with the other reply - Domme is great, as is Sarlat, Rocamadour, and Terrazon.
For great places to stay - visit the Sarlat tourist board website - you can get places for half the price that you can book them over here
http://www.ot-sarlat-perigord.fr/
we have booked a place in August (well actually 2 gites together) with a pool for 11 people for a total of about £800 for the week! try booking that over here!
Once you go into the website you need to select the holiday rentals column on the left and put in your requirements.
I looked at the end of March for 4 people without a Pool (brrr!) and there was a lovely one with a pigonnier (tower) for 280 EUROS (about £200)0 -
We have just booked a nice villa/gite in Sarlat w https://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk
Property 50918 - really good value in March and it is the best one we have found despite searching about 2000 properties.

I would love to try a holiday in the dordogne. I went as a child about 30 years ago to the area round Rocamadour (?) concarneau and sarlat and loved it - especially the food. My problem is the thought of travelling there by car and ferry (which is what we used to do - combining it with a week in Brittany or the Vendee regions). Has anybody tried flying to this area and renting a car? Is it prohibitively expensive. It would be for 4 people. thanks for any replies.0

We thought we would fly to bergerac and hire a car. We are in southampton so would use flybe.0 -
Would recommend Sarlat as a great town to visit. I stayed at a gite in Sarlat in June 2005 and there was so much going on with street theatre and great regional food market one day. Not sure how warm it will be when you are going but a canoe trip down the Dordogne is great fun passing the chateau high above you with eagles circling in the sky. Several chateau are open for public viewing. Scenery is great and I will go back to the area again. Driving is a pleasure with very few cars about except in the main towns.0
