Whose responsibility is it to loss adjust?

Options
I insured my hired (for 6 months ) horse trailer.

Unfortunately I had an accident in which the trailer overturned and is seriously damaged

The insurance company asked me for 2 replacement quotes which I obtained.

They have now asked me to get a repairer to confirm in writing that the damage is irrepairable.

I have asked the local dealer to do this ten days ago but they so far have sent me nothing. I can't blame them this is s loss adjusteers job.

Now the trailer hire company is chasing me for progress as my hire period has lapsed and they want to replace the trailer.

I don't know what to do and am
desperate and depressed about all this. Am I liable for the hirers lost business. Should I be finding someone to loss adjust the trailer?

Please help

A. x

What did the first two quotes say eg did they say the repairs will cost x amount or did they say it's beyond economical repair

The insurance company asked me to get quotes for replacement. Neither dealer looked at the damaged trailer both just quoted for a new one as the old (3 years old) trailer is now discontinued.

Now they have asked me to get a repairer to confirm that it is beyond repair. The repaireer has examined the trailer ten days ago but has not provided yet a confirmation or quote.
meanwhile I am being hassled by the hirer as the hire period has elapsed.

Feel like piggy in the middle paying money to them all and getting nowhere.

The first two quotes are of no use at all to the Insurer, they need a quote that confirms either the repair cost or if its not economical to repair then a quote confirming this.

You need to sort the above out in order for the Insurers to move to the next stage of your claim.

I would suggest you politely hurry the company up who are providing the confirmation it is a write off, if they are not playing ball ask the hirer who they buy from / use for repairs and go to them for the confirmation

Since you don't have a loss adjuster, you will have to do it yourself, unless you are happy to pay someone else to do it for you. Loss adjusters don't work for free.

Haha, given the amount most do compared with their contracts I suspect alot of work is done in 'free' time!

As to the OP, it is your responsibility to prove your loss to your insurers.

The two quotes are of use to them as when they get a quote for the repairs (a) they can confirm it is not economical to repair and (b) know what the settlement should be. I doubt horse trailors are like cars where you have Glass', CAP, Parkers etc or a new for old policy on home where you just go to Currys.co.uk for the latest prices for TVs.
