Huge Orange Phone bill !!!

Hi, in May 2005 I was given a promotional offer from Orange for 500 texts a month for free for 18 months.

Stupidly I forgot all about it and my December and January bills have both been over £100!! My usual bill is £30. I am really angry because shouldn't they have sent me a reminder ? I've been with Orange for six years you'd think they might out of courtesy put that on your bill or something when the 18 months is coming to an end ? They have told me I can't change my tariff until July, can I switch to another provider before my contract runs out ? Any suggestions welcome.

If the 18 months are up, does that not mean your contract is now over? I don't quite understand, as you stated you took a 18month contract out in May2005 which means it is now over and should be able to move out freely

As the 18 months are up you can give them 30 days notice now to cancel contract.

You are free to take out a new contract with another supplier at any time you like,it does not matter if you have contract with another network. If you want to take your number with you,it would be best to wait 30 days.
  • They're saying the texts promotion wasn't part of my contract, it was just an offer or something

Have you renewed your contract with them?

So when does your Orange Contract run out ,or has it already run out?

so despite finding out on the December bill that you were being charged and paying over £100, you did the same in January?!?

You will have to pay it regardless.

Unfortunately Orange (or for that matter any mobile company) are not legally obliged to remind you when certain offers finish. And in your case it has benefitted them quite some!

But is your £100+ bill is made up of just txts? If so look to move to another provide (o2 & 3 come to mind).. Orange have rubbish/good (depending how you look at it) retention staff so will let you go quite easily.. if you need to take your number get a PAC code.

Also if this helps o2 allow you to setup minmum and maximum usage limits (although they are limited to a 3 day delay). So its still possible to get a really high bill if all the calls are done in 1-2 days.
    ummm...
