I religiously write a list (although often buy other items if a really good price) and look at mysupermarket to work out where to buy what. All the stores are quite close together if you have a car and my routine is Aldi, Lidl, Asda, Farmfoods, and then sometimes Tesco and sometimes Marks and Spencers. I have now stocked up on most basics and have loads of home-cooked freezer meals so I only need to do a big shop every three weeks. I can see this would be quite out of the question for a lot of people and taking children round four or five stores would make one demented! My philosophy is to continually consume less, particularly meat and I simply don't buy unless I am getting a really good deal.

as i have said before, if you having to drive round all the different stores, you probably arent saving as much as you think, with petrol at the prices, it is these days

I also find that I save quite a lot by shopping around. Agree that unless the shops are in the same vicinity, the petrol cost outways the savings.

However, how ever much shopping around you do, each week things just seem to creep up in price.

I alternate between shops fortnightly. Today was my Lidl, Farmfoods (next door to each other)and Sainsburys (pass on my way back) trip.

A few of my best finds -

Lidl - Managed to pick up a few of the weekly deals (which is unusual, as usually sold out). New Pots - 59p, Cooked Chicken Slices - 99p, Luxury Coleslaw - 69p (usual price, but scrummy), Barrissa Jar of Green Olives weith Herbs - reduced to 59p (but these regularly.

Farmfoods - Noticed quite a few prices increases, since my last visit a fortnight ago.

Quorn Chicken Style Pieces & Mince £1.75 each or 2 for £3.00
Muller Strawberry Milk X3 £1.00 - save 38p (OH fancied this!!!)
Birs Eye Baked to Perfection Salmon Fillets -£3.00 (saw these at another SM for £4.49p!!!!!)
9 Nicky Toilet Rolls are now £2.25 or 2 packs for £4.00
2 Nicky Kitchen Rolls are now £1.16 or 2 packs for £2.00

I have listed my Sainsburys Frozen Food offers under a separate listing.

HTH - Savings across the 3 shops today was almost £20.00, worth the extra hassle.:)

Well, surely it depends on how many miles one is driving, what one drives to visit different stores and then what one is buying?

I recently did a round trip of 50 miles and bought many things on offer, 2for1, half price etc and saved myself about £80 had I bought them at full price.

The fiver fuel money just means I saved £75 instead-still a bargain.

Therefore I'd have to drive some 800 miles visiting stores for it not to be worth it!

i was on about driving round by one shop at a time, its ok if you can drive to one carpark and then visit several stores.
thing is did you really need the items you brought on offer, or was it a case of just buying because they were cheap and possibly sitting in the cupboard for months.
not alot of people can afford to just buy cos the item is on offer. they can only buy for today and not for next week.

    Morrisons bargain:

Their value sachets of Instant Custard are 6p each and make a very cheap pudding if you slice a banana into it. I didn't used to serve a dessert, but to save money I now make a smaller main course and have a pudding as well.

Yes, it wasn't foodstuffs but things we all need all the time, toilet rolls, toothpaste, shampoo, detergent, washing up liquid etc etc.

I always stock up and just seek the offers when needing to restock.

I haven't bought anything like the above at full price for about the last 4 years and have saved ££££ doing so whilst probably spending a fiver driving to various shops.

I understand some people can't afford to do this but I'd urge anyone to do so if poss.

    The savings are huge.

Fifty flippin miles, for food shopping, flippin heck! I'd be very upset if I had to drive more than ten miles to do my shopping. You must live in the middle of the Scottish flippin Highlands :D
