Elective c-sections.

I had an elective (breech baby) and 13 months on it still upsets me to think about it:(
I felt everything and as soon as baby was out I had to be put to sleep and other surgeons called.
I suppose just as with a "natural" birth you get the good ones and the bad ones BUT a section is major surgery and things can go wrong.
I wouldn't advise anyone to have a section unless there is a serious medical reason why it is needed but I guess it's up to the mother to be to make the choice she feels is best for her.
A shared experience....and 8 years on, it feels like yesterday.
Sorry that didn't help did it0 -

8 years on and I could probably still give you chapter and verse about what happened to me when I had DD (in fact I think I might have, afew pages earlier). In fact the section was the least traumatic bit about the whole event - I couldn't even drive past the hospital for over a year, and every day that passed I could say "this time four days ago they were doing ... to me", then it moved on to "this time last week" and eventually "this time last month" iykwim. The whole thing was just burned on my brain.
With DS, although it wasn't quite the "elective" section I was booked in for, it was generally a whole lot less traumatic (apart from when the Salvation Army band were in the delivery suite playing Away in a Manger which made me sob when I thought of DD at home on Christmas Day without me). As a result, I have little recollection of what happened, or certainly couldn't give you a blow by blow account of the experience like I could with DD. I can't even remember what I dressed him in to bring him home
whereas I can still remember all the gifts DD was given and who gave them. Bizzare.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I had an emergency section with my first child, ended up totally terrified and traumatised and it was another 7 years before I was brave enough to become pregnant again. With my second pregnancy I was booked very early on for an elective section at 37 weeks.I had my elective and things went awfully wrong, baby was stuck, I had one doctor sitting on my chest and another providing counter traction to pull the baby out, baby was stuck in left side of pelvis.I then had a massive bleed, had iv fluids pushed and ended up on three days of intravenous antibiotics for traumatic birth.I did not get to see my baby straight away as BP plummeted and I was taken to high dependancy.Apparantly I am not made for having babies my consultant told me.I dont know if I would have wanted more children but have decided to follow the consultants advice and not put myself and my baby at risk again. It wasnt the hospitals fault, some women have uneventful labours and others need help. What im saying is an elective c-section is not always the easy option. When you finally get home you have a long recovery, no driving and the removal of your staples to look forward to.Plus a scar and a body that will never be the same again.xx0

With my first child I had an emergency section as at 4cm they realised he was breech. Terrifying experience having my injection in my spine while contracting, and recovery was a long process. It was painful, but not majorly. The worst part was the not being able to pick things up or get about as I had hoped.
With my second child I had a spinal when I was fully dilated after pushing for a while as baby's hb was getting distressed. I was so adamant on trying for a vbac. I was told 3 go's with forcepts and if baby wasn't here it would then be a section.
I tried so hard to push baby out. I had a massive cut all the way to my bottom, but on the 2nd go baby came out. The recovery was jut as painful as a section in my experience, but was quicker. Though my disolveble stitches dissolved before I healed and when baby was 6 months old I had to go in and be put to sleep for an episiotomy repair.. and go through the healing process all over again.
Having said that.. if I decide to have any more children I have no idea what decision I would make.
I think the biggest worry I would have if it was likely to be forcepts again is.. what happens if forceps dont work? They cut you down there and try forceps... that doesnt work and you end up with a section.. but then you'd have to recover from not only the cut down there.. but also from a section?
Think I would rather have one or the other.. not both, lol.0
