Router? Wireless or?

Hi just wondered what people thought. Is wireless router as good as a wired? I've always had wired with no problems? Just that 'am upgrading my broadband & one is included.

Appreciate any views

Thx

Wireless is essential if you want to be able to connect other devices to your network such as phones, Wii, PS3, laptop etc without worrying about where to plug in. In my house I have my pc hardwired to the wireless router, my other devices are connected wirelessly. If where you keep your pc is not easily reachable by wire, it can be a benefit to connect this also wirelessly.

Position your router in a sensible place and you will have no issues connecting to it from ay reasonable distance.

Thank you very helpful, appreciate your quick advise So with a wireless router you have a choice of hardwired or wireless to PC. I would probably prefer hardwired

All wireless routers I have owned have included ports to hardwire to. I usually hardwire the pc, as it is located close to the modem and router anyway.

Wired routers are almost obsolete now, all consumer routers are wireless-all will have 2, usually 4 network ports if you want to connect by ethernet.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Wireless can be better, if it enables you to eliminate telephone extension cables.

Putting the router next to the telephone socket and connecting all devices by wireless, can get better better results than using a telephone extension cable to get the router near to the PC and connecting the PC to the router by hard wire.

I would add that if you have a wired router you are happy with and have a spare port, just add a wireless access point to it.

Convenience and performance are not the only issues in the wired v non wired debate. I believe having so much wireless technology floating round the ether is detrimental to our health.
We may only find the true cost 20 - 30 years down the line. I know there is a lot of disagreement about this on the net but seriously why expose yourself to one more risk?

Hi Can1976 I've got a new wireless router connected via ethernet cable to PC . So just to confirm if I want to connect anything wireless say internet TV, I should be able to even with the ethernet connection?

    Thx
