2 diff parking regulations within a couple of metres on same street = ticket, help!

Options
I got a parking ticket this weekend gone, and because it seemed pretty unreasonable I wondered if anyone knew of a resource or link they could direct me to to help me justifiably appeal it.

Basically, I parked in a "permits only" zone, but, just a few metres down the same street was a sign saying something to effect of "2 hours max stay, or permits only" (this means I can park for free for 2 hours, or, if longer, I must hold a permit.)

I was there about an hour, coming back to ensure i didn't get a ticket. I did not notice the other sign; it was a lot smaller and you wouldn't logically expect a different parking regulation just a couple of metres down the same street.

There were even empty spaces directly opposite the "2 hours max stay, or permits only" zone, I simply parked a couple of parking spaces away because I had no knowledge whatsoever that the rule was different just a couple of metres away.

I came back to my car, to the guy taking a photo and sticking a ticket on. I did explain, but he simply pointed out I should appeal.

Has anyone been in the same position or does anybody know of a resource I could look at to help me appeal this claim??

thanks so much in advance,
Emma

Sounds like a council ticket. If so take pics of the signs, lines and end on to the bays. Get pics also of both sides of the ticket as well. Go to Pepipoo.com and look at the stickies on how to post pics into a nthread that you should start there.
If its only a private parking company then just ignore them.

Thanks for mentioning Pepipoo.com , yep it's a council ticket. What do you mean "lines and end on to the bays"..? Do you mean end OF the bays??

What he means is take photos of everything, signs and any lines or markings on the road at both locations adjacent both signs, the parking bay markings (if there are any) are also important and what we need to know is do they 'end' and then another set of bays start again further along etc. All this stuff is important, so just take lots of photos of both locations.

You could also use Google Street view to post a location up on PePiPoo to start if you have one and follow up with your pictures and PCN when you have had chance to scan them in.

You should join and start a new thread here - http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=30

Just remove (wash) any identifying information, reg, ref no. etc from your PCN but keep on times and location and post both sides.

The photos will be key and then people can advise if they think you have a case.

End on means stand at the end of the bay and look along it so that any lines across the bay are visible as well as the line at the end of the bay. The combinations of lines and bays is important.

Sorry but i dont really understand this. Lines across the bay..? There's only one set of lines, running vertically, parallel to the curb. No lines across bays.

Anyway I've taken a few shots and am going to post on PePiPoo.. unsure of what this actually meant but thanks very much i get the gist and will post here if it will help anyone out, once ive had an outcome

You have answered the questionwhich I was thinking. There are two types of normal parking bays, one with a single line out from the kerb and with a single line running along the road. The other has two lines out from the kerb and a different type of single line running along the road but with individual bays marked. Often councils mix the two types up and make it easy for the victim at adjudication.
