X Factor

Have just watched the X Factor. Now know who has been put through the the live finals. I stupidly thought that it was a singing competition. They have put through a lot of people who are interesting and will give them good press but not great singers. Put out a lot of much better singers. Been watching less and less as the series went on but am not going to watch it at all now. So manipulative just to get lots of press coverage.

    As they said...

My sister was at the auditions in Manchester and most of the ones that got through were either dressed in outlandish costumes or stunningly beautiful model types. Clearly the singing was irrelevant.
  • It's never been a singing comp, it's always been a case of who will attract ratings and get that Christmas number 1 then disappear.

    No talent is required.
If at first you don't succeed, maybe bomb disposal isn't the best career choice.

Now that really is a stupid thing to think! It is all about doing whatever will make as much money as possible for ITV and Simon Cowell.

So you finally got it after seven years? ;)

This show makes far more in terms of money from voting during the shows and selling ad space than the 'artists' ever do from their careers. From Simon Cowell's perspective, it's immaterial whether any of them go on to be successful singers - it's all and only about the tv programme. The more contentious the better because that means more people vote.

Which one was your singer not? Or all of the above including a poor singer ;)

Any televised reality TV programme isn't based on who's best at what; it's aimed at who's got most people willing to spend a fortune voting for them.
  • I'm more surprised that this year's ringers are quite so obvious, particularly those who claim that they've never sung in public before yet somehow turn up with a studio quality backing track and the confidence to incorporate a cringe inducing dance into their routine.
