There are different sorts with different conditions.
The ordinary so-called Cash Credits (can also be by credit card) do not expire, but the £25 Talk and Text or other Add-on packages are for 30 days.
As well as that, the WePay scheme earns credit for 30 days, and there is 30 days to claim it by adding a new Cash Credit, so they are trying to encourage regular top-ups but it isn't compulsory.

Cool, thanks.
I just want the cheapest option. So if I go for cash credits, I should be fine?"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
I think so, yes. My SIM was a contract one, converted nearly a year ago. No credit on it at all yet, but still active (I've rung it up a couple of times over the months).
If you're going abroad to one of the 7 countries with a 3 network, they've just introduced vast cuts in roaming fees - 20p a minute to call UK and free incoming calls - see Like Home on the int'l part. Or get a Talk & Text package for a month while away then £25 for up to 500 minutes.
3 might not be the cheapest payg here though, if calling other networks. T-mobile has 12p a minute calls to all networks
However, I've spotted another product that might be very interesting to use with it, which I'll add something about later - a callback service, which means calls are set up as incoming calls; I'm hoping for a clarification about their tariffs at the moment0 -
Thanks again.
Basically I'm actually going to be moving to one of the seven countries listed, hence the interest in getting a Three PAYG set up, meaning that family and friends from the UK will be able to call me free and I won't get hit by roaming charges.
As for callback services, I used to used them years ago. In reality they were a pain to use, and gave up!"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
It looks like I fluked a guess at your motives
You can pre-register a credit card for top-ups, and then do it online or via the phone on My3, which will save people buying you vouchers and sending codes
For a local SIM where you're going, look up details at

Thanks for the link, however I'll be cool where I'm moving to, as I know people there.
I'm thinking about maybe signing up to a 12 month contract with Three and using a 12 month cashback offer.
Any suggestions on this? I know that coolnewmobile have a decent one around (it also means I get a new shiny phone).
I presume I can't use a Three Sim in my normal 2G handset?"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
