well if they ask you whats the renewal quote, its not hard to tell them politely, that you dont want to disclose it... if they ask again, tell them of including the f word ;)

I was with a well known company that made a mistake on my policy although i was accurate with my online application. When i phoned to point out the error they said it would cost me £18 to correct it. I did not bother and will not use them again. The only problem with voting with your feet is that eventually you run out of companis to deal with!

Yes. It was only afterwards that it twigged that I had made a mistake and realised that I had possibly been ''had''. This was even before those letters arrived concerning the NCD.

What this action has done is reinforced the upward trend for increased insurance premiums. The whole reason for seeking the quote was to escape the £90+ increase since the previous year's premium but this has been encapsulated in the new quote plus there is the possibility of an increased premium on top of this because of the way that they choose to calculate the No Claims Bonus.

I don't believe that 9 years was mentioned at all. I was asked if I had had an accident in the last 5 years and I replied that I had been accident free for 15 years.

  • Now that Masterquote has been provided with the proof that the incident was no fault by my previous insurer they have now implemented the question of 6 years maximum NCD from them. Of course both were rolled into one but the incident was the strongest but now that that has been sorted the next weapon is called upon. Of course I had realised he potential for this scenario from the beginning and it is for this reason I made the original post because I wanted to describe the process as it takes place and unfolds rather than afterwards so that it appears to be a complaint with sour grapes. It is to provide a warning to others.

  • Well it has been a while since making an entry concerning this situation and although it is still not sorted to satisfaction there has been some amazing cooperation with several of my previous insurance companies with the help of one of Masterquotes own member of staff. It was an exercise in normality with her and as a result my no claims has been updated to 12 years with a previous company but it is still waiting to be actioned on by Masterquote who have not yet replied to my email concerning this matter sent last Tuesday. Somehow they have redefined the meaning of the word management.

A lesson for you for the future - do research into companies that you've never heard of that appear on comparison sites - a quick google for "Masterquote reviews" reveals that you're not the only person having trouble with them, and that they're cheap for a reason!

Whilst using comparison sites for my 2010 insurance one company always came out cheaper, Never
heard of it and looking up the details it was registered in Gibraltar.

I thought no thanks, Imagine the hassles if they failed to payout.

The reality is that they are not cheap and certainly not worth the hassle. The surprises came after I had made the policy payment. They were looking for more.

Since confirming that I have full 12 years no claims bonus they have not returned acknowledgement of my emails to them let alone answer them since 18 October and this afternoon when I phoned customer services I was answered by a person who said that there was nobody available to take my call and when I said that I was willing to wait I was told that there was no one available. when I told her that in my experience companies tend not to call back as promised I was left with the only option of having to trust what she said. Of course there was no call and at other times when it had been mentioned by their correspondence that they had unsuccessfully tried to contact me there has never been a missed call registered on my phone.

As mentioned before they redefine the meaning of ''management''

  • Yesterday morning a letter from Masterquote, posted 6 days earlier arrived stating that the additional fee had been returned to my account and that the NCD had been updated to 9 years. Also in the late afternoon a signal on my phone indicated the receipt of a voice message, that was a response to the promised call back, asking me to call Customer Services. The person on the phone at Masterquote was polite, helpful as well as, I felt, respectful and all of my questions were answered.

So finally it is a good result from a situation that began, it seemed, to be adversarial on both sides and without clarity. It was by being proactive and the quick and willing response of my previous insurers and eventually the cooperation of one of Masterquotes own members of staff that eventually brought a resolution to something that should really be much easier to solve and perhaps should not even exist if the NCD system was better organised and recorded.
