Porto bello, what do you consider and unexpected bid though?

Some weeks virtually all my stuff goes overseas, I've sent to Alaska, Bulgaria, lots to Russia and China and the majority of my buyers are in Australia.
I happily send items to Australia & New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and all Western Europe (including Italy, which I know others have had problems with). Eastern Europe seems pretty trouble free too.

However, only 3 out of 6 South American buyers actually paid (mostly using the excuse that they can't pay because they haven't got paypal) and of the 4 items I sent to the former Soviet Republics, all except one never arrived ... apparently!

But my biggest concern is buyers with their feedback set to private, who (wherever they live), I've found to be somewhere between dubious and downright dishonest! :(

As a matter of interest, how do you cancel a bid from a buyer? When I've tried to do it, ebay has directed me that I can only do it if "there is a legitimate reason" and cites the following:

    Examples of legitimate bid cancellations:
    • The bidder contacts you to back out of the auction.
    • You are unable to verify the bidder's identity, after trying all reasonable means of contact.
    • You want to end your listing early because your item is no longer available for sale. In this case you must cancel all bids on your listing before ending
If you do carry on to use the tools provided, it asks you to fill in the reason why you are cancelling the bid. Do bid cancellations get refused if the reasons are not "legitimate"?

You would only cancel a bid if a buyer asked you to or you wanted to end the auction or if you didn't like the look of a bidder's feedback.

Buyers who bid and then retract their bid too often may ask you, the seller, to do it for them so it doesn't show on their feedback.
    You don't have to agree.

But you can block them from bidding from you instead.

You cannot cancel a bid for a buyer unless you fill in one of eBay's reasons. Just pick the closest.

Go to auction page, click on 'bids' then follow link at bottom to cancel bids- simple.

  • Morning all,

Just a little update on the above. Pay pal refunded the buyer (I phoned them to sort it as my requests via their website were doing nothing). I have to admit, the lady I spoke to at Paypal was really helpful and the refund to the buyer was done within minutes.

I contacted the buyer just to say the money was now refunded and could they at least acknowledge receipt of my message. Not one reply have I received......I still think I've been had, especially as they have been giving feedback on eBay recently, so no doubt my messages have been received. GGGGGRRRRR!

Anyway, I'm not wasting anymore time on this person. I'm doing my Royal Mail claim this week. Just wanted to thank everyone who has
taken the time to reply, listen to my rantings, etc. It's been really appreciated.

    Cheers!

Why are you claiming against RM? Its pretty obvious that you've been had and thats not RM's fault.

Because, unfortunately, I can't prove delivery and according to Paypal's message board, I have to claim off RM. if I don't claim, then I've lost both the monitors and the money. I think I've also lost my fees too. Paypal refunded the buyer, but it doesn't look like I've had any fees back. Amazing though isn't it, Paypal have listed the Ukraine as a high risk country to send mail to. Wish I had spotted this before.
    I'm far too trusting sometimes..

As far as I can see RM have stuck to their part of the contract.......good luck with your claim but I can't see you getting anything back apart from maybe a book of stamps. Another claim to go against RM where its classed as lost/stolen when technically its not their fault :(

I've no doubt that RM have done their bit, but I have to claim from somewhere. I see what I get offered (if anything). I can always sell the stamps to my husbands business so hopefully I'll get something back.
As for the buyer, I've gritted my teeth and won't leave any feedback for them. I've changed my profile now to only accept bids from the UK and I may even consider registered postage in the future, especially for more expensive items. The only problem with that is, people really get put off by the postage costs.

So, hopefully now, I can just put this to bed, so to speak, and put this whole thing down to experience.

    Thanks for the messages!:)

I notice you're new to this board. I'm fairly new too and I use this board for some good advice. I don't know if you're joking but I find being called dumb insulting. I have to try and claim for loss, and RM is where I am starting and I'm certainly not scamming them.

    Quite right too
You are doing the correct thing by claiming from RM I hope you get a full refund.
