I wouldn't go down the route of ignoring your husband either.
You will get compensation eventually, and it's a cheap enough lesson.

This isn't limited to Ebay really, but I have a few mates over there and what is normal here really isn't there. The main thing I think is that there is no safety net like here, no benefit system and the average wage even for working people is very small. What isn't a large sum to people here is a different thing over there, and they know it and some abuse it out of desperation more than out of malice.

There's a few countries like this, not out and out scammers like Nigerians can be, just very poor in comparison to us.
It's a good thing it wasn't something bigger, and you did the right thing all the way, I hope Paypal stop being arsy with you and all ends well.

Thank you Timmers. I'll probably end up refunding in the next couple of days but the buyer now has until Tuesday to respond, so I'll see what happens. And yes, I'm glad it wasn't a bigger item!

Thanks to all who have replied! :)

  • Me again...
I've just been having a look at the Paypal transaction for my lost parcel, just to see where we're at. Apparently now, the case is being reviewed by a Paypal specialist......so.....do I hold fire on the refund?? According to them, I should receive a reply by the 21st Oct. As yet, I've still received no correspondence from the buyer whatsoever. They had to respond to Paypal by the 4th (yesterday) but I can't see what information has been given.
I've calmed down a bit since the weekend - I just want to get this sorted and obviously not tarnish my 100% feedback. :)

If you allow paypal to close the INR and refund (using your money) then you lose all your paypal fees and a strike is recorded on your seller dashboard.

You cannot win an INR without being able to prove delivery.

I hadn't a clue what to do as I've never been in this situation before.
Do I contact Paypal to say 'issue a refund' as the funds are being held? I can't see anywhere that says to authorise a refund.

I can then pursue my claim via Royal Mail.
    Thanks!:)

  • I e-mailed Paypal this afternoon to refund the buyer.
There's a note on the dispute that now says

You have sent £15.57 GBP to (buyers name) with PayPal.

No date on there, so I assume they've sent the payment back to them.
I have e-mailed the buyer to advise what I'm doing and also commented that this dispute could have been avoided had they contacted me directly, and as another goodwill gesture (because I'm soft) I said I hoped their child was better.

Anyway, if I need any more advise I'll pop on here and give someone a shout. Thanks for the advice and listening to me rant in the first place!

    ;)

Whenever I get an unexpected bid from an unusual part of the world, and if the value of the item makes it worthwhile, I have sniff around to see what else they are buying and selling. More than once, I've found that it's clear from the feedback the buyer is leaving for sellers that they are routinely claiming that they are not receiving items and putting in claims (and probably selling the items on).

Of course, it's easy enough to remove their bid and block them if you've got time before the auction end, but if they place a last minute bd and win, I'm afraid you're stuck with 'em!

Porto bello, what do you consider and unexpected bid though?

Some weeks virtually all my stuff goes overseas, I've sent to Alaska, Bulgaria, lots to Russia and China and the majority of my buyers are in Australia.
