If the computer is 6 years old it should be running Windows XP. Are you seeing Windows ME (Millenium Edition) rather than Windows XP? If so I guess your machine is older than you think and running a seriously outdated version of Windows.0 -

well use the link in post 12, find out which XP version you have, 32 or 64 bit,
If you need help finding out which version of Windows you're running, see Is my PC running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?
scroll down to English, using the dropdown arrow, select the appropriate version, and download that.0
