in a word, you don't. It's set by the ISP when you sync to their service. Unless you've paid for a static IP, it may change when you resync.

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • WOULD a dongle work,

sky said it should change but it didnt, i have a normal broadband router.

i didnt do anything bad on the forum i mentioned, but upset a moderator and they won t let me back on, its trip advisor.

Why bother if you were banned ? Surely you were banned for a reason.

And not one single one of them work except in the minds of those who think they know more than they actually do. Whilst they may result in that account being suspended/banned, the person merely needs to set up another with a different IP address and email account.

Unless the forum intend on blacklisting an entire ISP or an entire email domain, they cannot ban someone.

On some forums, including this one, you can be banned for the most petty reasons.

At one site, I was banned because the throwaway email account I used for it happened to contain the word 'spam' somewhere in it. It's the email address I use when I don't trust the privacy policy of a site.

On HotUKDeals.com, I was banned by the idiot mod 'Sigma' for pointing out a better deal (which I thought was the entire point of the site). I've since been told he's bit of a tool, with a history of getting revenge on people who vote 'cold' on his deals for instance.

Just because someone is a mod/admin, doesn't mean they are necessarily balanced people.

Sometimes dynamic ip addresses arn't very dynamic.

Some ISPs use the mac address of the router to allocate an ip address. Try a different router and see if the ip changes. I'm supposed to have a dynamic ip address but I always get the same address even after holidays when the router has been switched off for a week or two. However if I change routers the ip address changes and remains until I change routers back.

Some routers (DG834 for one) allows you to change the mac address it uses.

Presumably so the poster can return and cause more mayhem.
I think I'll put the poster on ignore here too, just in case they want to try and cause the same havoc here.

    Yeah?
I must say I've not come across it yet ... and as you see I've been here a long time and made many posts.

Mind you, trying to re-register when you have already been banned is one way to get banned again...
