AOL BB Losing Connection

Hi all, is it my PC or is AOL BB crashing more frequently? This seems to be happening more since CFW took over, or it could be my imagination!!

Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Must be your imagination. I've just checked and I've had a constant connection for the past 7 days. I don't use their AOL software though. Just their modem.

If you have a wireless router, why are you using the AOL bloatware. Remove it from your PC and let the router handle the connection!

  • Hi Davidboy,

Sorry to always sound like a broken record....but have you checked your microfilters?

Microfilters not being installed correctly or a faulty microfilter will cause disconnections.

    1. Double/triple check that you have 1 microfilter fitted to every phone socket that is in use. Remember to include Sky TV boxes and fax machines.

    2. Faulty microfilters will impact your speeds and you will get disconnections. To check your microfilters to see if you’ve got a faulty one, unplug everything from all phone sockets in the house, test each filter from the test port from within your master socket by connecting to the Internet. If you get a substantially lower sync using one of the filters you’ve found your faulty one and it will need to be replaced.

Rereading your post I'm not certain if we're talking about disconnections or the PC itself crashing. If it's the PC I would highly recommend having a review of what security software you have in place as viruses are one of the first things to check for when your computer is acting funny. ;)

    Good luck!

    Kind regards,
    Samara

The microfilters were the ones I had originally from AOL and never been a problem until the last fews weeks, so don't think it would be them. Had AOL BB for 4 years now. Also yes they are on EVERY socket.

The pc just loses AOL, so I reckon it must be a virus..... oh well another job to sort out!!!

    Thanks guys.

Can you describe what is happening, is AOL just disappearing, or is it locking?
