    Recover the PC to the original operating condition in the event of a critical system failure

    As good a reason as any to keep it.

    You should know if you've been putting stuff there.
    I'm pretty sure I don't save stuff there. I always save to C Drive.

    I'm running Windows XP so found out how to turn off the warning - hopefully that's worked now. Thanks for all your replies.

    depends how competent they are at rebuilding a PC.. Like Matty_D, i delete it all as well as branded machines come complete with endless crap that you don't need. If i was going to rebuild i'd do it from scratch and not a factory restore.
