London Marathon 2012

  • Yours was incorrect as I did not edit the part where I said 'Virgin screwed up'...why would I say it screwed me up? You read it incorrectly.

I did not rush at all when I filled out the form, I took my time.
I only filled in my bank details because it was a requirement to.
I remember the statement saying something like; 'if you're submission does not make the ballot, your fee will be credited back to your account'.
I certainly did not select the 'Radio Button' for donating my fee or was ever presented with that page!

No offence, but the facts are that you DIDN'T have to pay anything upfront to enter the ballot (as stated by others, not just myself). You should have read it more clearly - as you should always do on anything you're putting your bank details on surely ?

Can't have been because others have said they entered without including bank details and they got a place.

    Maybe that was another mistake.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

What I like is that you can't afford to give the money to charity. However if you had got a place you could have afforded to pay for the marathon. If you feel short changed as they've taken your cash, head down to London the week before and run the same route for free.....

  • This is what the page would have looked like according to Virgin who emailed me a screen grab from their website software...

  • People often tick the charity box, hoping that it will help them get a place, which it doesn't

It's like shooting nerds in a barrel
  • Other people may have but this was not the case with me because I knew my chances were slim of making the ballot.
I even joined up with a charity team to increase my chances of running the event.
  • As i said before I chose not to donate my entry fee so was not asked for payment details.

You seem to be under the misunderstanding that you give your payment details wether you donate your fee or not. This is not the case. You only give your payment details at time of entry if you are agreeing to donate your fee in the event of not being granted a place.

If you do not donate your fee you are sent an email as quoted below.

Thank you for entering the ballot for the 2012 Virgin London Marathon.

We'll let you know in early October 2011 if you've secured a place - you'll receive a magazine through the post letting you know if you've been successful.

If you're selected in the ballot we'll also contact you asking for your entry fee payment
