VIRGIN Broadband - free modem free connection and no contract..

Options
Hi all,

Just thought I'd point out that VIRGIN are offering their plan 2 broadband with a free modem as well as connection at the minute and there is still no 12 month contract (30 days notice only). It's £17.99 a month (3 Gb limit).

Be warned though. Don't go thinking you can take out this and then switch to a cheaper provider as I did as they use different streaming to all the cheap ones for most of their connection (Data instead of IPSTREAM). Nut you good be lucky.

Still a good deal though

Simon

hmm.. someone has just suggested this deal to me - I dont really understand about the 3GB allowance though.
I will be using connection for some personal research so will opening pdf files -with they use up alot of allowance?
I dont download music, games etc
and I only use the internet in evenings and at weekends...
do you think this would count as 'general usage' which is the function Virgin Website suggests its suitable for..
I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000

opening each PDf file will use part of your allowance so you need to get a rough idea of average file sise of the pdf's you will view, but they are often quite big files

  • PDF file sraen;t normally that big usually 1mb max. this would mena you can download 3000 of these a month (I doubt you'll e opening this many).

Most normal users (without music and video downloads) will use and average 1-2Gb a month which is what I would class yourself as.

Hope this helps. I've found Virgin fine, good speed and no problems.

    I have a question please!

I signed up to the Virgin deal beginning of Feb. Everything went smoothly and I got connected within about a week. Then I heard about the EFH Broadband deal (£11.73/month), and I migrated about a week ago, but I couldn't access any websites after the migration! No one could figure out what the problem was. I reinstalled the modem, did the 'ping test' - connection fine but still no websites. So I made a lot of fuss and EFH kindly let me cancel the service and promptly provided the MAC code. I went crawling back to Virgin and gave them the MAC, and they told me I should be reconnected within about 5/7 days. Then on the same day I made the call to Virgin, I got home to find EFH working perfectly! I just can't figure it out!? is there foul play? Is it possible for Virgin to fiddle with somehing so that the EFH connection wouldn't work?

Simon, could this be to do with that IPStream thing you mentioned?

    thanks!

  • I don't think it would have been something to do with the IPstream. I don't think EFH would have let you migrate if you were on the wrong stream.
