Really dumb question

If I buy an unlocked mobile phone can I use it for pay as you go or does it have to actually specify it is for pay as you go? (told you it was dumb)

Unlocked will work with any network and type of deal. However, new unlocked phones usually are called 'sim-free' by the merchants.
