I have a delivery of organic veg weekly and meat monthly which comes to about £80. I then spend about £70 in aldi/lidl for other items to last the month. O I nearly forgot I also have my milk delivered.
This is my way of keeping out of the shops and saving time which I then spend on this site!!!
DD xx
don't suppose you are anywhere near london?
i can't get a veg/fruit box delivered weekly for under £80 - £90 pm, never mind meat!
i would love to do this if anyone knows how to make this possible for £80-£100 pm?
thanks

Spending less than £100 on food shopping in May.
organising cheap/free days out with friends
Negative vibes:
Being £1100 in my overdraft0 -

Well I have finally started Monthly shopping. At Christmas I decided I was going to have to trim the shopping bill as prices were sky rocketing and shopping weekly meant that I was buying unnecessary things and these were slowly but surely overtaking my cupboards and freezer so that I couldnt get the essentials in
.I decided to do it gradually as I have an absolute phobia of running out of things so I wanted to discover what I actually needed in reserve to last me a whole month. So I started at a fortnightly shop and then three weeks and finally last Wednesday I put a monthly shopping list in.It came to 189.00 and as I make all my own bread, cakes yoghurt etc and there are six in our household I dont think this amount is too bad.The poor Asda delivery man nearly got a hernia delivering it and it took me hours putting it away which I hate but I am at least confident that we can now survive for a whole month without me having to go to the supermarket.
As for fresh fruit and veg I make a fortnightly visit to a local market for supplies and its much cheaper than the supermarket anyway.I also bought a chest freezer before I started my monthly shop so that I could freeze things like cheese and ham etc so that I could still have fresh things without having to buy more.Potatoes and Onions we buy by the big sack once a month so all in all I've saved myself a fortune and I've got all you OS'ers to thank for it because I always knew I was spending too much on shopping but didnt really know how I was going to cut down without going without

well done...sounds like you have got it cracked! now you have done it once every month from now on in should become easier and easier :T i think you did a fabby job on your budget for 6 people thats just under £7.90 a head per week!! aren`t chest freezers great, i couldn`t manage without mine now and most certainly couldnt manage a whole month without shopping without it.
well oh and i have just polished off half a delish hm pizza each for our lunch and i used every last scrap of fresh stuff i had lurking in the fridge to make it, i do my shopping monthly now so for the next week or so untill i go shopping again we are going to be eating frozen and tinned fruit and veg, i dont mind i love tinned pineapple etc anywayproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0 -

Thanks Angchris I agree with you totally that once you've run out of fresh, tinned and frozen is the next best option. But we are so obsessed with eating fresh that we dont explore these options any more.I was reading a report on nutrition the other day and canned/frozen veg has more vitamins than fresh stuff thats been lurking in the fridge for a few days.I dont buy tinned veg with added salt or sugar so I'm now confident enough in them to serve them to my kids at the end of the month as one of their five a day

ewww i can`t buy the tinned fruit in that horrible sickly syrup... natural fruit juices all the way..you may as well not eat tinned fruit if you are going to eat the sugar as well! i`d rather keep my calories for a full on choccy hit :rotfl:proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0

i have always monthyl shpped as i get paid monthly and its what my parents did. I spent about £120 - £140 max a mnth on 1 big monthly shop and fill my freezer with meat & veg & all my tins etc that way i only need fresh fruit , bread & milk and a little bit of fridge stuff and that feeds 2 adults overall including toiletires its about £100 to £140 max each per month. I just do a spread sheet for my meal plans nbut with have quite plain meals so we dont need all the sauses etc and i dont buy in goodies if we want them we get them each week and if we cant be bothered to go to the shop we do without, helps with not picking all the tyime that way0
