Our income is all monthly as are bills etc. I actually meal plan and shop fortnightly, for 3 reasons: 1) storage space, 2) keeping things fresh 3) to take advantage of money off codes as i shop online.
we do do a few top up shops but I am this month trying to do the grocery challenge to try and minimise these!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
I do a broad monthly meal plan and a big monthly shop. I then do a more detailed meal plan every week, and a small top-up shop
I'll add this to the existing thread so that you can see what others do

I was in Tesco yesterday at 3.30pm which was unusual, I usually go first thing in the morning, and I was delighted to see more reduced food than ever :j, so i stocked up
I think I will start going at that time every week. I was also thinking that buying just what I need on a daily basis might be more economical than a big weekly shop.
What are your shopping habits and why???0 -
I go on thursday mornings as that is the first day of the week that I don't work. I go early so that it is quiet (I am with a two and a half yr old) and there are not long queues at the tills. It also means we don't have to spend the weekend doing the food shop.
The only thing with morning is that there is not a huge amount of reduced fresh food.0 -
I go to Mr M on a sunday morning, trying to be there for opening at 9.30. I do this because in order for bananas to last till Friday I need to get them Sunday. ALso there is quite often a decent amount of YS fruit/veg at that time. Not always, but often enough to make it worth doing. DH goes out for a run at that time.
I have my breakfast when I get back."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I used to shop day to day because I lived just a few minutes away from sainsburys. I used it like a corner shop and would just pop over for bread etc when needed. I used to spend quite a lot doing it this way as I would always get tempted to buy things I didn't need! Back then though I didn't have any financial constraints so this didn't worry me.
Now I shop on a budget so I only go food shopping twice a month. Once when OH gets paid then again when I get paid. Anything that can be frozen goes straight in the freezer to cut down on waste. I get plenty of spuds, veg and dried food such as pasta. Then I just top-up on fresh milk and bread really as I'm not keen on these once frozen. I would say I spend less ans waste less doing things this way.0 -
I go shopping or buy online once a week, just because I cant afford 2 or 4 weeks shopping in one go, also I cant get much in the trolley after the bread and the milks gone in. I shop online until I can't bear the things they are subsituting any more, then I go in (usually tesco but sometimes somerfield) BUT always spend more in store as I cant keep track of the total, and some prices or products are different from those online.
Would like to go to the shop in the evening to get reduced stuff but its busier and an inconvenient time.
Ideally would like to go round the town to butchers and grocer, but the parking is very sparse in my local town, sometimes I go to tesco just because theres parking spaces
I get bored of doing the same kind of shop every week, though. That makes me impulse buy, so I try to vary the way I shop.''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -
My mum works at Mr T, I pick her up Wed, Thurs and Fri.
I do my main shop on Wed afternoon normally, then get bits on Thurs and fri but, after reading all the OS stuff, well I go straight to the whoopsie basket and buy what I can freeze, even my mum has started doing this :j
So I think my shopping habits have really changed after reading the OS thread. BTW, whenever I read whoopsie, it reminds of Frank Spencer:D
We call it the scav basket :rotfl:
I love getting the cheap stuff lol0 -
I shop once a week as a rule, and try to avoid going in at other times as I know full well I can go in for a pint of milk and come away with a full trolley! I do check the leafletys that come with the free papers though - you know the ones, with the cheap deals and offers in Sainsbury, Asda etc, and if I see anything particularly tempting I might go along there as an extra. I also pop into Lidl if I'm over the other side of town....
I'm an organised shopper these days too - because I meal plan I shop from a list and I am totally lost now without it!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I like this idea - how do you get your fruit and veg to stay fresh for 2 weeks?0
