The cost of PJ's is my bug bare at the moment. We all need new sets, 2 kids, two adults Even Primark looks as if it's going to cost £20+ for us all a new set. Really kicking myself that I haven't budgeted for them before now - I've been on this thread for months!:rotfl:

Seems really chilly here tonight. I have my lovely blankets over me and my laptop on my knees :)

I have started on my list although its slow going at the moment as only a few pennies to throw into the winter pot at the moment. I am however keeping tabs on electric and gas meters and recording how much per week we use. I used to do this but got out of the habbit and then i got lazy and started using more - so now its being kept under control ready for the winter :)

Just a reminder about British ga$ discount for those eligible, it's £130 this year and quite a wide criteria for eligibility, don't miss out! A set time to register for it.

edit, it's a govt scheme so should apply to other suppliers.

Thanks very much for this, I checked my provider and I think we MAY be eligible! :T Would be an enormous help if so, but if not, hey ho - what you've never had, you never miss! :D I've just started switching suppliers, both fuels to one of our current ones IYKWIM, might save about £13 a month, not a lot but better in my pocket than theirs.

DH was asking if we could have CH on tonight, but I said no (wicked wifey!), we have to wait until 1 October or first frosts, whichever comes first! DS5 got his new Primarni fleece pjs on tonight, DD nearly 3 has pj trousers and vest on, major feat to get her to wear that much!

    A xo

Hi, I've not been on in ages (started college and been very busy)

I really need to get a car box done as I'm at college 2.5 days a week and the LO is with me. The motorway was closed 2 years ago due to snow and I don't fancy being unprepared.

New bed has been delayed :(. Was hoping it would be here last week.

Decided that my bedroom is very chilly so I purchased a rug (£27 in Dunelms sale) and the teddy mattress protector. I'm planning on painting me bedroom soon, would cream and brown walls seem warm? Going to fleece my curtains too.

I'm currently scouring ebay for some cosy jumpers.

It might sound daft but I am sitting in a room with my heated airer on to keep me warm while I work.

Our windows ledges in the lounge are 2-3 feet deep, the windows go right up to the ceiling, and the curtains hang quite a long way from the wall, about 6 inches, so we lose a lot of heat into that area. The wall are covered in distemper so it is difficult to stick anything to it. Anyone have any ideas of how I can prevent heat loss.
We have 4 large windows in the living room just to start with and a front door.
Those who have been here a while will know about the front door. :D

DS3 is busy insulating the hall ceiling. It is costing about £400 for materials but worth it to prevent heat loss.

I know it sounds tricky, but I think you need to get something into the window recess to baffle the heat loss/cold coming in. Could you put fleeces in the recess, maybe on net curtain wires or rods, & as many as needed, like several cafe curtains? Bubble wrap on the glass?

I am sorry if I have missed this as I have been following the thread for months but does anyone cover up their back door or have a back door curtain? Our kitchen gets very chilly and theres only a small radiator though the landlord is having a new wall and window put in the kitchen in October so I'm sure to help but any ideas for the back door? We already have a snake for the bottom but obv dont want something that is going to go horrible with condensation etc from cooking x

I've got a blackout roller blind on the window in my back door that I can wipe off & helps with keeping in the warmth. I do want to get a curtain on it too as it goes straight into the garden, so will make sure I get a washable 1 so I can keep it clean as needed.

Is there anyone you could do a hand me down for the girls pjs & get some bigger ones back? Maybe a pj swap? Or they are (according to my mum) very easy to make - from spare fleece, perhaps.
  • Qfter following this thread last year I was inspired to make a draught excluder snake. But not inspired enough to do it properly.

My method was 1) Cut one leg off trousers and do a quick running stitch round one end. 2) Stuff with carrier bag collection. 3) Put hair scrunchie round other end. (Didn't think of scrunchie when I sewed the first bit.)

It was fine except not quite long enough so this year I will either find a longer pair of trousers or cut the leg up to the waistband and sew up the side bit.)

  • So much for my preps, Ive run out of gas and have no heating and cant cook LOL

Was at Lidls today and theyve got some lovely draught excluders in, the same as last years, red gingham ones and country cottage type ones.
They also had short welly boots in. I might get a pair for the gardening.

Annoyed that I was in a town with Primark in it and forgot to have a look what was being sold...I'll give it another try in a few weeks when I have a bus ticket that lasts for a week and my journeys are cheaper...

  • Slightly OT but remember how yesterday I said things were dead around here, it was even worse today and that pub that was saying it was open until 2am and I said it was empty tonight it was already closed at 10pm...and during the day there were hardly any shoppers around...I can see more retailers closing at this rate...
