Preparing for winter III

I was watching BBC breakfast news this morning and was giggling something awful!.. They were talking about the latest 'fad' in the UK.
One-sies!
LOL!!
Apparently, they are 'all the go' at the moment.
The reason for my giggling was that my sister (who lives in Scotland) sent us a set last year! And we've been wearing them all through last winter! My dutch friends were quite yealous of my lovely, snuggly warm one-piece suit that is SOOO comfy and SOO warm!
I'm just hoping it might catch on in Holland as well. Would be brill to be able to get some more. They are lovely and warm through the cold winter. Don't worry about the expensive designer ones.. pr.imrk ones are great!0 -

I can leave it with the pilot light lit though which solves this problem - I personally hate doing this (worried about pets and the knob to turn it up) but I did put it on the other night just in case.
Mine doesn't have a pilot light
The knob does pull off though
I usually have a bit of paper around the spindly bit before pushing the knob back on but haven't gotten around to replacing the last bit that wore out yet, if i don't do this the knob just spins around and i can`t turn the fire up or off. Have a look and see if the knob will pull off and if it does your problem will be solved.

Just been reading up on all the latest tips on here and have realised with horror that my spare cylinder of gas for cooker is empty. I have been using the other one for quite a while so wouldn't be much left in it now - and I've no car to get the spare one replaced. Now that I know I have no spare, I'm worried about running out of gas.Treat the Earth well,It was not given to you by your parents,It was loaned to you by your children.Masai proverb0

beanrua - I do remember when we had a calor gas cooker that we had it delivered because we had a motorbike (oh lost youth!!!). I dont suppose a taxi would be too thrilled to have to put one in the back - but maybe someone will deliver.debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0

I'm worried about running out of gas.
Can you get a supplier to deliver, I get the canisters for my calor gas heater delivered. Check in yellow pages or on-line and see if you can find someone who does, still enough time to do it today as would presume a place like that would be open 7 days a week 9 -5

It may well sit in the shed ...... I guess you have to weigh up how often you get power cuts / if they're usually short etc.
It varies hugely from area to area - DP took the decision as they are really remote (only around 6 houses down the road where they are) so they really are last on the list of anything being done - there used to be kids in one of the houses so the road was done reasonably regularly for the school bus to come but the family unfortunately moved a couple of years ago and now it's rarely done at all:( so if they are stuck (snowed in or loss of power) it's likely to be for long periods.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

prepareathome wrote: »hopefully will have a few pounds left on Monday after I buy the specials at Lidl, but keeping £200 for then as want to actually look at the food there. Do you think I should buy anything locally or just leave it till Monday at Lidl - never bought food there, only been there twice just for specials ( mattress protectors and cannot remember but not food). After that no more money till 21st.
What else?????
i'd def suggest stocking up a lidl, they have a good selection of basic tinned goods and dry goods at great prices, there are very few products i've had from there that were bad, most are good or very good indeed.
i heard from a german friend that lidl sell items that are brand names in germany so whilst they may seem a bit generic to us i suspect that isn't the case. some are a bit hit or miss with the fruit and veg, i find the ones in larger cities often have appalling fruit and veg but the shops in smaller towns or villages have always had a good stock, ours is superb actually and the produce stays fresher longer than morrisons def and often longer than asda or tesco from my local shop, def a good place to stock up!0 -
I saw that report on the BBC as well, that couple were moaning their faces off that they had no power and yet they looked ok to me
CAN I ASK, has anybody got a genny ? We are thinking of one for the freezer. Our longest powercut last into the 5th day and we had to claim off Scottish Power. i would hate that to happen again as the freezer is bulging at the seams now.
you can claim for damages from your power company? tell me more! i'm concerned that if we lose power for more than 2 days i would lose everything in my chest freezer and fridge freezer which would include everything for the main part of christmas eve, christmas day and boxing days dinners!
i do have contents insurance but if i can claim off npower instead that would be good because that wouldn't increase my premiums.... please tell me how i can find out what the rules are for this sort of thing! cheers0
