My forsythia and honeysuckle have both started re-flowering  Nature is confused!!!
Birds were going scatty in the garden today.... Normally see that sort of behaviour in spring.....
Now.... Don't shoot me but wouldn't it be funny if we went from autumn to spring skipping winter altogether :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Just about sorted for winter now.
Got a box with a small lamp in wind up torch, batteries, matches etc.
Nice and toasty in bed with the duvets.
The cat is nice and cosy lying on a old pillow Ive wrapped in a small fleece.
Ive got thermals when they have been on offer in places and thermal socks.
Fleecy blanket to lie under when watching tv but I tend to go to sleep doing that lol.
I just love this thread and all the tips so thank you everyone.

But you know, in all seriousness, that's what our winters became...well, before the last couple anyway.
I distinctly remember commenting how mild the winters were in comparison with those I remembered as a wee (and not so wee) girl. I was actually quite nostalgic for a bit of frost and ice. Suspect it's all my fault the last couple have been so bad, then!!!
It's a bit chilly tonight, so I have a hot water bottle stuffed down the front of my dressing gown, and a throw over my legs with kitten on top. Toasty warm, again - can well recommend it, though it might not ever be high fashion. Might never need to put my heating on...
Winter Prep today has consisted of buying batteries for my radio in case of power cuts. Would probably climb the walls without some form of entertainment. Had a powercut yesterday, that jerked me into instant action, well, I say instant action...I flapped about a bit :rotfl:. But it only lasted 2 minutes...and it was light too, so I didn't need the 500 tealights, 5 torches, 7 boxes of matches or indeed any of the toilet roll mountain I've amassed.......shame....but I was well poised to move quickly.

:j Nice to meet you, Boddy. I'm in the Morpeth area. Hoping the big snow cloud that stopped over us to drop its load continuously for weeks last winter, just carries on through this winter....better prepared this year, though I was so woefully unprepared last year, it wouldn't be hard to better it......0 -

Never thought of batteries for my radio - smart thinking Frugal !- will get some tomorrow
I have been buring a few candles in the evenings and I am amazed at the amount of heat that comes off them! I am going to look for old fashioned non scented candles, as hubby complains about the smell of them.Every days a School day!0 -
I reckon evryone is off knitting Other-Half or Husband Cosies (a bit like an egg cosy only MUCH bigger) and thats why its been so quite the last couple of nights.
Just saw the weather thingy on Autumnwatch and it said its the 7th warmest October since records began so thats pretty warm - average temp of 11 degrees! Oh I dont care if we dont get snow and tempests - I just love the feeling of having actually planned ahead for once in my disorganised chaotic little life.debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -
This whole thread and concept is a revelation to me hence spending on Landsend Petite down Gillet £9.50 Amazon, with nice large pockets that demand testing.
Plans are to prepare for Scottish Winter as weather is horrendous though it looks as if Scotland is outrageously glorious.
I need to buy
Thermal undies or top up as required.
Berghaus or outdoor retailer quilted down coat £130-160.
Window insulation film
Wallpaper stripper if need be to kill flies, defrost fridge and perhaps steam clean areas of the flat!!!
Suitable Hat that protects ears and teeth and winter brings out teeth pain hence needing to hide under duvet with electric blanket on and dozing off on and off in preferably dream filled sleep.
Blankets and staple gun over doors windows. Winter is for hibernation, reading, tv, radio, more reading, reading, socialising, the net and aiming to go out for long walks for fitness.
(this thread is full of good ideas, excellent stuff).
My cupboards are crammed as hand-to-mouth for me is not good economically and cupboards give me strengh provided all in date.
Explore MSE for further hints and tips but do so in a dignified qaulity ways that overall manages to push down costs to lowest sustainable level.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.
Reading whatever books I want to the rescue!:money::beer[/B

If it was dry outside we slept outside and if raining or snowing we stayed indoors but windows were usually open.:DBlimey Shirley - its amazing they didnt kill you all. My mum wouldnt let me go to an open air school with my severe asthma because it was boarding - Im really glad now. How in heavens name did you keep warm??Never thought of batteries for my radio - smart thinking Frugal !- will get some tomorrow

We saw cheap plain white household candles in Somerfield the other day thoug I resisted as I had plenty of candles (before Errant Husband asked for some tea-lights earlier as he's burned lots of his & I couldn't remember if he's paid for a bag before he left...)
I've taken the kitchen stereo up to my room & replaced it with the wind up radio so if there's a power cut we can easily listen to the radio in the kitchen. While having cold food as I've no non-electrical heating means yet...0 -

I have apple blossom on the espalier, eunymous and Rose of Sharon in flower, and two patio roses in full bloom with thirty or more buds still to open. Not only is Nature confused, so am I !
I recall one C*******s in the early 1960's, when staying with a friend in Cornwall we walked along the village street in short sleeved dresses. I don't know about funny, but I'd certainly not miss Winter if it weren't for upsetting nature even more0
