Warning: THREE mobile broadband scam

  • Just to add to this, I've just found that we were charged £4.78 as we went over our limit a little at the end of the monthly contract period on 4/10 literally on the last day as it renews on 5/10. What we didn't get was a warning email from 3, as we normally do, when we get to 20% or our usage so we know to monitor it. I rang 3 today and they said they had sent a message to say we were reaching the limit ... but that it wasn't sent out until 5/10!!!!! What flipping use is that!!!

After complaining (nicely) that we hadn't had the usual "you've got 20% left" email, and that we didn't know we were reaching our monthly limit of 5gb due to the message not being sent until after we had done so, they have agreed to deduct the charge from our November invoice. I'll certainly be watching it much more carefully in future though as I don't want to have the problem again, especially if we don't get the emails from them.
  • You seem to be ignoring the fact that 3 went back on the agreement to cap the allowance, and so fool the OP into thinking he was still within his limit. A 3 retention customer advisor offered me this cap. When I have used 4 GB I get a '20% remaining' pop-up, then one at 5 GB stating I have used my allowance. I remove the dongle straight away after this and have never been charged extra.

According to the T&C's the 'cap' is an aspiration, they are not liable should the warning not be provided, although they would use their best endeavours to ensure it would. This is because it is the consumer that remains totally liable for his service and the service that is consumed under contract. Only PAYG provides a waiver, whete the liability cannot exceed the credit available.
