You answered your own question. A lot of places don't accept American Express, so they've given you the option to use Visa now.picardygirl wrote: »I phoned MBNA and asked why i had received two cards to be told the only difference is the AMEX card gives me 2 reward points for every pound i spend and the VISA card gives me 1 reward point for every point i spend ...... i asked why two cards though, they said use the VISA for places that dont accept AMEX.
Sorry, i know this sounds a bit thick, but why have they done this ?0 -

Yes you are right. Plus late fees, overlimit fees, 1.99% via conversion charges, foreign currency transactions & interest.
Many people on a promotional offer still pay late and often MBNA will not re offer a 0% promo othter customers credit profile means that they are unable to transfer to another provider.
pre tax profit of £348million pounds for 2010. It makes money.0 -

I DO get that i can use the VISA card where AMEX is not accepted, but the query was why have MBNA changed ....... ?0 -
MBNA probably make more profit if you use the AmEx card. It's almost certainly a commercial decision on their part. If you find the points useful, go for it!picardygirl wrote: »I DO get that i can use the VISA card where AMEX is not accepted, but the query was why have MBNA changed ....... ?Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

I recently joined the AA for breakdown cover and thought their Rewards Plus credit card offering 3% cashback on fuel was worth going for, applied and accepted today so it seems MBNA haven't stopped new customers altogether just yet. I hope if and when they do pull out of the UK that this AA cashback rate remains

AA/Virgin etc. are unaffected it is only cards that carry MBNA branding (without any partner branding) that have been pulled.0 -
I had the Sony card issued by MBNA. However they have now replaced it last month with a MBNA AX rewards card. Personally I dont care who buys MBNA as long it is not SAV credit who are more associated with sub prime cards. When SAV bought Citicards my apr went up to 34 percent. I sent their OPUS card back them and closed the account.0
