Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 30th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
It's supposed to be another sunny day here today, lets hope it holds over the weekend.
I've made chocolate cake, ginger cake & Milo biscuits ready for today's cake sale, we hold it in aid of Macmillan instead of a coffee morning & usually raise £150ish.
I've managed to obtain a bike for one of the foster children, DD is coming to collect it tomorrow, I may have got another one too, but won't know until Monday.
Hubby has caught my cold, he has gone to work, but may come home early.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good Morning Hester and All Who Follow:

I hope you are all feeling well and happy this morning. I slept well despite the heat and am looking forward to the sun this morning. I found my summer dresses which I had stashed away in DS wardrobe. I didnt wear them over the summer but pleased they are getting an airing at the moment:T:T:T

I have a day of running around, ferrying kids to jobs etc. Im hoping to fit in a trip to my local Lakeland later as need a new potato peeler. Gosh my life is exciting!!! I will be back later xx

  • Morning Hester and all who follow another bright sunny day forecast here in north Kent.School run first thing then at 10.30 I'm off to the primary school as they are having their Big Coffee morning for McMillan fund.My youngest DGS is dressing up as a crocodile and he looks really cute and the year threes are entertaining us this morning with songs etc.So that will be nice. Then this afternoon I'm off to History class and DGD Holly is picking the boys up for me and I will get them at 4.15 from her house.Just laminated DGS Henry's 'star of the week award ' for excellent behaviour Bless him I shall buy him a few sweets as a well done' I think. He is a good little boy if a bit noisy at times but underneath he is not a bad lad.Football mad of course,I swear he takes his football to bed with him.:):)Its Roald Dahl day at the school so hence the reason Mikey is dressing up.I must make sure he has shorts underneath so he can take his costume off if he gets too hot :):) Well time for breakfast
Ulypool good news that your DD has come to her senses, the grass always looks greener until they try it, then its not always what they want .Shows she realises that, and is mature enough to come home and not just dig her heels in as some kids would. well done with your patience.
    Have a great day everyone
    Cheers JackieO

Been up since 4.40, went to b/room couldn't settle so got up for coffees. I had DGD y/day as DD had her final meeting with the MW. DD is doing Hypnobirthing at home, baby is due in 4 wks. Took DGD for a long walk to the park gave her lunch and put her down for a nap, she slept 3 hrs which gave me time to cook 2 chicks, choc sponge, do DSil2B's packed lunch for today and cooked hm burgers for us and DD and him for dinner to go with jackets & salad. Like others on here I also did some ironing, as the cottage stays cool in the hot weather it wasn't too bad.
WM & BM are on now, the vacume is on stand by ready to use when DH wakes. Having DGD again today and will be sleeping over. I love having her staying here. I bathed her y/day, she was wriggling about and said " Nanny can you get the itch off my back please?" I'll make a fish pie for her lunch and enough for 10 portions and freeze. Lunch for DS is split pea & onion soup that's simmering now. I'm still not using the DW, I'll be interested in seeing the difference in the lecy bill this month. Talking of Lecy we have had 2 quotes, and 4 more to come, for solar pannels on the extension roof, we can't put them on the cottage as it's Grade 2 listed. We've done our sums and will get a 17% return from selling it to the Gov and free elec. Can't get that amount of return anywhere else.
DH has appeared so will go and make him a coffee.
Hope all a good sunny day.
UOLYPOOL, how was your DD when she came home ? ok I hope.
  • Morning all, before and after!

It's a beautiful morning in Scotland although I'm noticing the dark in the mornings more and more. The seasons have turned and the leaves are turning golden and falling in crispy drifts.

Today will be a quiet one as I'm still feeling rough. I shall try and get to Mass and the coffee morning after it (shall take my knitting) and then come back, do the FlyLady list and then snuggle up with the boys, books and knitting for the rest of the day. I'm nearly finished a baby blanket and think there just might be a ball left over so I could go into town to return it. This could be wishful thinking though!

Hope everyone has a peaceful OS day :)

Hi everyone; another lovely day here, too. I've got bath mats in the wash - they always take ages to dry but, if it ends up as warm as yesterday, they'll dry in no time.

Notjustlaura - hope you feel better soon.

I have ironing to do, and I must bake a couple of cakes because we have visitors on Sunday afternoon; I'll do a date and walnut cake (I still have hundreds of walnuts to get through!), and a Victoria sponge.

I see they have winter pansies (10 for €1.99) out in the stores here, so I'll get some tomorrow and get my window boxes and a couple of tubs done. I also have to prep the holiday home for guests who arrive next weekend. I have a busy if not particularly riveting weekend ahead!

Beth - I've hardly used my DW this year; I'll admit to using it when we have a roast, but that's about it. I've also barely used the TD, as well, so I shall be checking my bill when it comes!

I had to phone France Telecom yesterday because the bill came (it's every two months here), and it was almost twice the usual amount, for no obvious reason! They acknowledged that they had made a mistake but they didn't apologise (no-one in France ever apologises for anything!). And, as is usual here, you have to pay the bill then wait for a credit on the next one! You have to double check everything here!

Well, I'm off to feed the birds, and put the washing out.

Have a lovely morning, everyone - I would if it wasn't for the ironing!¬

    Morning Everybody,
Uolypool... so glad to hear DD has come to her senses & isn't it lovely to know that she is with you because she chooses to be :)
My early morning peace & quiet is being disturbed by a beeping noise  at 1st I thought it was the smoke alarm but no, then checked both gas & electric meters, no, but just as well as the gas had 1p left on it  it appears to be coming from a box of bits & pieces that DP has stashed behind the tv unit & can only assume it's the old dect phone that we replaced a couple of days ago, anyhow I shall just have to put up with it until he gets up as I cannot reach to sort it out :( tis annoying me tho' :)
Today I am off to have my toenail removed  so I will be using that as excuse to sit with my feet up doing nowt all afternoon :D
WM is on & DW has been emptied & DS will shortly be decluttered out the front door ( once the requisite number of hairs have been gelled at the right angle lol) cats have been fed, dogs have been out to the pen & gone back to bed so it will just be me & the bl**dy beeping, think I will take my coffee down the greenhouse :)

    Hugs, spoons & hi5's x

    Morning all

Sunny and warm here already. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. DS1 & 2 just left for school. One load of washing on the line, another load now in WM.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket, b/beans/veg - nice easy and quick - not sure what we'll be having tonight - will decide whilst I'm in the supermarket. Have to do food shop this morning.

Was quite productive yesterday, did all the ironing - but have washed everything in sight - so now have another huge pile!! Did housework - will be hoping to do some cooking/baking later - hoping it doesn't get too hot!!

Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that want/need them x

  • Morning everyone.

Hyper excitement as it's present city here with DS birthday. Not to mention the nearly £100 in cash he's been given  where the heck am I going to put all this stuff and the stuff hes going to buy!!!!
Have DS review at school this morning so hope that's a good one. Then they are having a Macmillan coffee morning so it would be rude not to go ;) then the rest of the day will be spent trying to put together a Galaxy marble run for DS. It looks very complicated  why can't it come ready made :o
Not sure about tea, will see what DS would like. Two guesses but my money is on pizza lol

Hugs and spoons all round. Have a good day OS or not.

Morning all - Bitsy - Happy birthday to DS.

Got up at 2 - did an hours ironing and then back to bed - not planned but couldn't sleep for thinking about it!!! Today I'm on kitchen and main bedroom cleaning and tidying. Kitchen is mostly done, will empty dishwasher when I get back from school run and then clean out fridge - its desperately needing it!! Have doctors this lunchtime - feel sooooo tired all the time - maybe cos I keep forgetting to take my thyroid tablets - need to find out if he can sort my memory out! Need to take pictures of a load of car boot stuff that I want to sell - I don't have time to do much carbooting as OH is only home at weekends. Will have BBQ for dinner this evening - boys asking for one, and as the weather is soooo nice..... must get burgers out of freezer. Least this weather is using up my icepop stock that developed over the summer!!!

Holiday booked yesterday - thanks to MIL passing, OH leaving army and my grandmas money we're having the holiday of a lifetime - Lapland with the kids, close to Christmas. I am SOOOOOO excited to see Father Christmas.

Hugs to all in need - off on school run. xx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
