Work Programme Enquiry

I'm asking on behalf of a relative. Age - 30+. Been unemployed for circa 2 yrs (made redundant). Worked in I.T. However been referred to Ingeus (Work programme people). Relative has to go weekly & apply for 50 jobs per visit (doing that ok), now Ingeus saying relative has to go on work programme if relative dosent get a job within a week....Can this possibly be true?? Sounds like bullying to me BIG TIME.....Is there any comeback for relative please? Can they really make someone reasonably qualified & seriously looking for work a voluntary job in McDonalds or similar???

Serious advice/comments would be really appreicated. Many Thanks

  • Yes, they can. Surely he is applying for work in 'McDonalds or similar' anyway if he has been unemployed for so long?
  • Oh, that's BRILLIANT news. You must be delighted for your relative, to get another taste of all the benefits of employment they have been missing so much for the past 2 years AND a little bit of a work reference too! What fantastic news. Do pass on my congratulations!

Having now read the Company's own website, it appears that in fact they can't do that at all AND no, I certainly would not expect relative (he or she) to apply for a job in McDonalds.
  • Ah well. Another morning with Jeremy Kyle it is then. Shame.

Wee Willy Harris - If thats the most intelligent comment you are capable of making, then you have my utmost sympathy
  • Oh. Where was I wrong? Is the chance of some work experience after 2 years of unemployment so wrong?

Then perhaps you could support them financially, if you don't think they should comply with the JSA requirements?

Wee Willy Harris - I said your level of intelligence appears to be lacking, negative & certainly unhelpful. I'd suggest you have nothing better to do all day every day except throw abuse and insults when OP's are asking for advice and people's experiences in dealing with these Company's

Dealing with these companies? You mean avoiding any form of employment, at all costs, for 2 years. Even when it's handed out on a plate?

I'll ask the same question again, as you clearly didn't understand it first time round..... Is the chance of some work experience after 2 years of unemployment so wrong?

I hardly think work experience within an organisation such as McDonalds is hardly appropriate for someone with a completely different skillset & certainly isn't going to assist this person into more suitable employment.

    Good night gentlemen
