Vent - Lost sale in Jessops

Mrs C wants a new camera to replace the one which gave up the ghost on holiday.

Looked into Jessops to look a Nikon s2500 point and shoot.
I asked the sales droid if I could recharge from a phone charger - can I see the USB socket please. Threw him completely. Will my D40 charger work? Blank look.

He then tried sell me:
A Jessops universal charger - that I don't want or need.
A carry case - we already have one from the old camera
A memory card, you need umpteen GB of SDHC Sir - no I don't - I have plenty of SD cards which will work.

During all of this time he made no attempt to instruct my wife or me on the virtues of the camera, to busy trying to sell extras.

So for the sake of a few quid on extras he lost the sale of a camera.

  • When I used to work for Currys.digital, it was worse to sell a camera without the add ons than not to sell the camera at all, I should imagine it is similar there too, unfortunately. (One of the reasons I left and perhaps why people shop online?)

Sad really, the lad was probably just doing his job,

Not his fault if his bosses say he must push other things.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I'd rather lose a sale than help someone that refers to me as a droid and a pillock. ;)

I thought "Pillock" was the OP's signature? (it was at the bottom, after all the text - where you would expect the signature...)

I thought "sales droid" was still in common usage derived from the "Star Wars" movie way back in the late 70s. Apparently not :(

If I title the OP "vent" then I can put "Pillock" at the end. So there!

Does you good to blow off steam every now and then, but the worst thing is that Jessops is the best price for this camera that I have seen.

Apparently humble pie tastes really good :)

For every person who already has things like a memory card or a bag, there will be at least two others who would come back in furious and "I'm going to sue you all" if you didn't tell them they'd need one.

However, I have a great trick to working out who needs things and who doesn't. It's called "listening to people".
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler

I ordered a Nikon camera three weeks ago from Amazon, next day delivery and cheaper than anywhere else plus no pushy sales staff trying to sell extras.:)

Sometimes Jessops are cheaper. I've been surprised a couple of times when I've looked at Jessops and found they were actually the cheapest for the item I wanted - and they offered collection in store as well. On other occasions they have been more than twice the price of the cheapest sellers!

It's always worth looking at their site just in case....(even if it's just to reassure yourself that you got a bargain from somewhere else)
