BT Broadband advice for non-billing

Hi,

Two years ago I ordered BT Broadband - they were the only one available at
that location and I was loath to take it because I *detest* BT. However, I
took out a 12 month contract.

It's now two years later and I'm looking at other broadband
providers and I quite like the look of Plusnet. Here are
the (rough) numbers per month:

BT:

Line Rental: £11.99
Anytime Calls: £4.95
Broadband: £14.99

Plusnet: All the above for about £18.00

So, it's cheaper for the same package and I get rid of BT forever.
There does not seem to be a downside here for me. But Wait!!!!
It turns out that since I ordered BT Broadband they have never,
ever, billed me for it (Indeed, I sometimes get BT ringing me up
asking me if I want broadband and they are stunned when I tell
them I've already have it with BT - how bad is that!).

So, the question is: if I bin BT broadband can they bill me for
the last two years? I guess they can but (at worst) they should
only try for 12 months (since I would have moved after that) but
(best case) they should just waive it as part of their incompetence.

You might ask: why change you're getting free broadband? Well,
eventually they will realize their mistake and I *really*
don't want to pay BT a single penny more than I have to
(that's how much I dislike them).

Any comments, ideas, suggestions?

  • Whether or not they will work it out, BT are quite entitled to charge you for the service you have had and can indeed hold you liable for what you owe at any time whether you change or not. The bill for which is increasing all the time.
