The best thing to do with an overspend day is learn the lessons and move on - and it sounds as though you're doing that.

Free weight loss class, cv help and the chance of an allottment too!!! Things seem to be coming to you of their own accord, well, after you putting in applications of course. It's all sounding positive, though.

    Keep up the good work!

thanks miggy, you helped put it in perspective. it wasn't an out of body experience or a mini breakdown, it was just an overspend day, sounds so much better :)

Pleased to be of service. :)
today a positive one. i have done washing, even if i couldnt peg it out AGAIN because of bonfires .

 indeed. And of course tomorrow when you are at the conference, there will be no bonfires.
i found a really good job to apply for... there was one criteria i didnt quite meet but i've decided to blag that one and see what happens ;)

Do just that. :) I always encourage people to think outside what it says on the paper because I once got a job that way. It asked for a qualification I didn't possess but I was able to demonstrate I had the skills and I got the job. Worth a try.
helping a boy i know with his gcse english and that means reading of mice and men so i can help him. hate steinbeck but will have to read it tonight

DD did that for GCSEs... she loved it! It's not a heavy read from what I remember. Bit sad, which I'm not good at, but DD is a younger than I am - obviously - and she lapped it up.

It sounds as though you're on a roll of creativity and getting things done! Enjoy the conference and the free food. :)

    I hope tea did help?

How maddening not to be able to find the difficult job app details. :( Disheartening, too, to find the job app you want and find there are
elements that preclude you. :(:( Is it worth drafting something anyway and sending to the company on spec? You must have quite a lot of the right things going for you, and it doesn't hurt to look keen. You never know, they may have something coming up?

Great thread...thank you. Really inspiring and encouraging.

I'm a freelancer in creative industry too with no jobs at the moment - it is soul-destroying and I wake up miserable every day! I also get migraines too and today someone posted that "This is your life" picture on my facebook wall! The same one that you've posted! Enough of the coincidences.

To be honest, harder than managing the money (I won't be saying that in a few months when my credit card bills are really big!) is managing my time. It's just so demoralising getting out of bed and thinking, "What now?" every morning. I have lots of bits and bobs that I could do including a potential book deal once I've come up with a better first chapter. But settling to write, create anything, work on my CV, come up with marketing ideas....all so difficult. I end up on facebook and ebay just frittering my time away. Help!

doingitanyway, stop being so hard on yourself.

Life is a bowl of cherries and one gets picked... or something strange like that.

anyway, it's ok, tomorrow IS another day. pick yourself up,and don't worry about what happened today.

make a new list for tomorrow and try to follow it. :)

Getting out of the house is a good idea and I like writing in cafes and stuff but it doesn't work for this book because it's non-fiction and I have piles of notes everywhere and need to refer to other people's books! Sounds like an excuse I know.

Sounds like you've had a really productive morning. As usual, I slept in late. Think it's having nothing to get up for - it makes me lazy! So I've done very little yet. A small amount of de-cluttering which was really a tactic to avoid being creative.

I know what you mean about money and creativity - cooking from scratch, looking for bargains and looking for work seem to take up time that might otherwise be focused on the creative projects that are supposed to be the day job! I mean, yesterday I got panicked about National Insurance and pensions and if I had enough qualifying years for a state pension (despite being over 20 years from retirement!) and that took all afternoon to research. Though finding out that I'm easily on course was a relief!

I tried that! Have tried everything.... doing the job I don't want to do first. Just doing the things I do want to do and not worrying about the rest - just enjoying the sense of achievement.

I think the changing season doesn't help! Somehow it's easier to have get up and go when it's bright and sunny!

I am currently on £7.50 an hour, and I am paid hourly! not a salary.

not the best money in the world, but above the nmw

so if you get about this much, you may be able to apply for working tax credit.

i dont want to get excited if they're planning on paying 50p and a bag of chips....wondering (in terms of pay) what i would accept. a friend says ANYTHING as something is more than nothing. what do you think?

A bag of chips is definitely something to get excited about! I would do most things for a bag of chips!

I'm feeling more buoyent. A friend emailed this morning wanting me to do a few hours work for her with payment in kind - she'll read my stuff, go through my CV, help with a couple of proposals. She's good at that so it's a good deal for me!

And someone else has offered a potentially paid job.

And the dole office said a couple of weeks back I couldn't have job seekers as I hadn't paid enough class 1s. I rang and queried it this morning and they said they'd made a mistake and are back paying me. I should have the money by 5 p.m. today. Hurrah!

It is hard to keep going though, when it's just you in a small room trying to be creative. Going to send another couple of book ideas off. Fingers crossed.
