Guys.....not wanting a mega surround sound or anything....just a better 'sound' than my TV has at the moment...plus to play the odd DVD!
Am i right in thinking that PC speakers have their own AMP & if plugged to the headphone jack I could use remote control for volume?
Thanks again for all the great advice already received!

Yeah, should work if it's a standard 3.5mm stereo jack. Not sure if it'll be an improvement but give it a go.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

Stevemol-cheers for the reply! TV pic is astonishingly good-as TV is ultra thin the sound is rubbish! I suppose I could always try it & if not good return it & get an Argos Credit for a cheapish surround sound?0

Many people in your position use a soundbar.

Does the manual say if the headphone socket mutes the main speakers when in use?0

Tesco have some USB logitech speakers that come with a travel case at half price (£12.99) model S150

Online still full price but local stores seem to still have them at offer price.0 -
Santer-not sure-need to have a look. Bengalknights-not sure If TV has a USB socket? It's got HDMI/SCART, & headphone jack. Not sure how I'd connect it/ Will have to check the (BIG!) manual-Toshiba sl738b 42 inch & see. Just want BETTER sound-not absolute perfection...just good sound & ok for the odd CD!0

Do you know if it will mute speakers & I can use remote???0 -
Ok........sorry if I'm being ultra-thick-just read the manual on-line & there is a 'L' & 'R' audio input socket(s) on back of tv-can I just plug ordinary speakers into this or do I need an external amplifier? Below is copied & pasted from manual.
'The phono sockets alongside the COMPONENT VIDEO INPUT sockets will accept L and R audiosignals.'
