Warning - O2 iPhone Insurance

Having just cracked my iPhone screen and tried to make a claim on my £15 a month iPhone insurance policy I have been told that my phone will be collected, inspected and repaired (within no specific or guaranteed time) then returned to me (a new one will be desptached if they can't fix it).

If you use your iPhone for business (like I do) this process is a completly unworkable solution (leaving me without a phone for 7 to whatever days) and I feel like I've been hoodwinked into paying £15 a month for the insurance.

I wanted to make people aware of this just so they don't make the same mistake I have - there are better (and probably cheaper) iPhone insurance deals out there, I'm going to now cancel my insurance with O2 and look for an alternative who replace the handset when they collect the damaged/faulty one.

Anyone know of a good iPhone insurance company who will replace a faulty iPhone with a new/reconditioned one immediately?

Kevin

Presumably you made sure of the claim/repair/replacement policy prior to commencing the policy?
I can't think of ANY insurance that will replace valuable goods without at least wanting to inspect the damaged goods first - especially goods of significant value such as iPhones.
  • The issue is the process of repair and how O2 have not made it clear that if your iPhone gets damaged, they will leave you without a phone for an indeterminate time whilst they collect, inspect and repair your iPhone.

I don't have a problem with them taking it for inspection and repair at all but I do have a problem with O2 continuing to charge me for my iPhone contract whilst I haven't got one and of course I have a problem with the inconvenience of not having a phone for any length of time, especially when they will not commit to how long the process may take.

I did read the policy document O2 provide before taking out the policy but It doesn't say anywhere that they will take away your phone for an indeterminate time and leave you with nothing as a replacement (temporary or not) whilst they repair your iPhone. If they had made their procedure clear, I would have looked elsewhere for insurance.

Are you on a business contract with business insurance?
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Just stick your sim in a cheapo phone while you have your iPhone repaired and stop fussing.

O2 used to. I broke my screen and claimed on the insurance. They sent a courier who did a straight swap over.

The type of insurance you want is not standard, certainly not at £15pm for an iPhone. If a business asset and immediatre replacement is required then £25-£35pm is the average cost. My last firm found it much easier to keep 2 iphones spare for such incidents so saved a fortune in insuring 6 of them. As someone else said, O2 has not not let you down, they never promised courier replacement, and if you look closer the replacement will not be new either - it will be refurbished ('as new').

This is what I would do.

Yeah, "used to" isn't much good now though....and they probably stopped due to the amount of spurious claims made when a new shiny 'must have' toy came onto the market for the isheep to lust after....
